First day at the new field.
My friend Bill just finished purchasing 80 acres of land so that he would have somewhere to fly. He is a member of our club but lives out of town. On the first day at the new field he managed to get the first flight and the first crash. Unfortunately I share in the honors of the first crash. We had been in the air for a few minutes and he was observing that we had come a little to close a few times. He then announced that he would be landing when not 30 seconds later I pulled vertical and there he was. Bill's plane was a Sig Four Star 40 which is the red and white one, where mine was the Sig Something extra (red and yellow). From the picture you can easily see who won this battle.

Hey Flutter, them there S.E.'s are some pretty tuff planes. I did the same thing to my buddies T.T. 51, but not while he was landing, he was flying about 8" above me and I pulled up too soon. The S.E. only needed a new wing panel but his 51 was sent up in flames to appease the r/c gods.

Eighty acres of land, only your two planes in the sky and you guys STILL manage to hit each other? You deserve some kind of award for this!

After stripping the covering I found only minor damage to the one leading edge and the landing gear mount had been removed. However I have recently noticed that my tail surfaces have been getting soft. After removing the covering I have notices some stress cracks traveling from front to back. So I told my friend that I was happy he hit me because I found some potentially lethal flaws.

Actually combat is one of my favorite events. Our club posts two combat days each year. All of the combat at our field has so far been open class. This allows anyone with an old airplane to enter. The attached picture is of my favorite combat plane. Everybody hates it because it is so ugly. But it has already survived one mid air collision and several other mishaps.
