How much $

What is the most money you've ever lost in a single crash? My guess for myself would be $600.

Based on the normal retail prices - around $10,000 when a 42%'er went in under power and nose first (It was the last time I trusted that particular brand of 2.4G technology in anything other than a foamy for the back yard)

What was lost was airframe (Compy - $3900), 3W 170 Engine (~$4000 including exhausts), Futaba servos (~$1500)- all destroyed beyond economic or reliable repair. All other electronic items were scrapped (I do this when any airframe goes in enough to destroy the airframe from flying again) .

It fitted neatly into the "***** happens" category

If I may please ask. What brand of 2.4G was the culprit? If you wish not to post on a public forum, I understand. Please send me a PM though. I want to make sure not to purchase that brand when I update.

I too would appreciate an PM with that information as I'm about to make the jump from 72 mhz to 2.4.

Apply a little pyscology to the situation, take the amount you have in the plane and divide it by the number of flights until loss.:D Made me feel a lot better after my beloved cub went in recently. It also helped that a great planes cub is on the building table about framed up.

As much as I fel for the guy at the end of this loss, this type of brand bashing will only serve to reduce the number of companies manufacturing goods for our hobby. I'm sure that alot of guys that have been in the hobby for 15+ years will agree that we have much fewer outlets for our goods now. It has become far too easy to simply blame equipment and post on the internet. This costs that company sales. Think about how you would feel if somone came online and was blaming the company you own/work without any real investigation. I have seen lots of radio issues that are self induced. Not saying this is the case for Steve but I do see it alot. I'm sure this will end up with some banter back and forth but lets use it as an oppertinity to learn something.

As far as answering the OP, I once lost a 33% Cap 232. It was a total loss of about 3K. I made the mistake of not grabbing the frequency pin before flying. After I swithced to 2.4 I have not had a single radio issue. Using both Spektrum and Hitec.

This is not aimed at anyone here, but I've seen a lot of guys dumb thumb a plane into the ground and then claim equipment failure.

I've seen guys lose a plane because they failed to check they movements. Reversed ailerons and /or elevator. I've saw one guy lose a plane because he DID NOT screw the servos to the rails. (just wedged them in).

Like I said, a lot of stupid stuff, blamed on equipment failure.

Back in 81 I lost a new pattern ship, on the maiden take off due to another member at the field decided to turn his radio on without checking the frequency board. Loss: $500 plus all the labor building it.

Under 200....lost an older airframe that cost around 200.00. Everything was ok except the the plane (mostly fuselage damage).

$1 is the most i have ever lost from a crash. I went nose first into the ground on one of my first flights to only find that my prop broke... It was a cheap prop that i got from hobbyking. I really havent flown much on anything but my sim due to having a slowstick and i cant find a calm day easily...

$800'ish

Carl Goldberg Ultimate 60.5 inch w/ Evolution 35 gt. $400 arf $100 muffler. $300 reciever/servos/battery

The engine and the tail servos were the only recoverable parts.

I have since purchaced a new CG Ulti 60.5in but updated the engine to a Syssa 30cc. I just need to get new radio gear and I will have my Ultimate back.

Around $250? I smashed a Seagull .90 Extra 260 and I had to replace the muffler and the remote needle arm on my O.S.91FX. My expensive planes I don't fly that often.

$5000 or there abouts. Crashed my BVM Bobcat on its 4th flight. I think that works out to $1250 per flight on that.

To be honest with you all the answer is probably more than I could stand to loose, but I love this hobby.:)

Sometimes it's not just the money but the time you spend geting an airframe into the air that hurts more. I lost a GP Pt-17 last year to a mid air, airframe was a total loss but the engine and gear was recovered. so about 350 for the plane but it was an arf. Now my kit built P-47that went in... over 200 hrs building and detailing, that hurt. But $10,000 in a model no way, no thanks.</p>

Im not sure where but all models seem to have an experation date on them.

Any plane can be rebuild, it just depends on how much time you want to spend putting the puzzle back together! :)  The loss of the equipment though, thats what hurts the most.

I crashed one that was not THAT expensive overall, but the flight did figure out to about $100 a minute !

Whats the joke about if I had known it would cost that much I wouldn't have flown so long ? :D

ditto ... same for my buildings, no notes about what is in the model. To have a gross idea is enough for me.;)

I have had two losses. Not much, one GP Easy Sport due to one maintenance issue and one GP Giles 202 due to lack of perspective in approaching speed. Both my fault.
