Default Software for editing .mov files ...

hey guys - my camera outputs vids in .mov and camtasia (which i would normally use for editing / uploading to web) does not accept the file format. cant remember what version camtasia it is at the moment because im not home but i can update to let you guys know later if necessary.
either way - i was actually hoping to learn about an alternative that i should probably consider since obviously camtasia isnt all that much of an editor. doesnt have to be top-shelf, but something apt that can provide options for transitions, clipping, converting, effects, etc.,etc..
running windows vista home premium, 32bit
i love this computer but i understand it might limit my options.

Wow, old thread but look like it has been resurrected. For free just download GoPro Studio, it will accept .mov files. Not many filters but free and simple to use. You can then save the renders file in several different formats to use in another editing software.

I've never edited .mov files, so I find your question pretty interesting.
