Default Best small cameras for RC aircraft

I'm looking for a good camera to mount on an RC aircraft. Basically whatever can be recommended and is easy to use, but I do have a few requirements:

-Preferably above 640x320 resolution
-Must be able to record videos in .avi or similar format
-Above ten minutes of recording time, preferably over 30 minutes
-under $250
-must be fairly durable
-under 5 oz. max.

Many thanks for any advice or pointers you all might be able to give me.

-Avery

I have experience with the FlyCamOne2 sold by Hobby Lobby. They presently have them on sale for $69, but you then have to buy memory for it. Just ran across this one last night - http://modelaero.com/Merchant5/merch...egory_Code=ACC It comes with 2 gig onboard memory and costs less than the sale price of a FlyCamOne2. It is also lighter. The FlyCamOne2 records at 25 frames per second. The other one records at 20 fps and boasts of having sharper video. That may well be true if their slower frame rate lets them do a better job of writing an image to memory. The only reason I am still comparing them rather than buying an Aero, is that the FlyCamONe2 has a critter cam feature which makes it useful for wildlife trail photography while the Aero does not.

Just ordered the AeroCam Lite DVR. Will compare it with a FlyCamOne2 after it arrives and post what I learn.

Will look forward to that mate. As I am planning to switch to an Aerocam myself. But would love to hear more first before finally buying.

I bought something similar to this on eBay last year for around $40. Nitro Planes has one now.

http://www.nitroplanes.com/wosmlora24gh.html

It isn't bad, but it isn't great, but it looks like the one from eBay. I can take passable videos. I've got a 12VDC analog TV and a VCR that I run off an inverter from my truck.

Just my $.02

Can you use a 2.4Ghz system like that and 2.4Ghz RC Radio gear? I would hate to loose control after takeoff or worse, shoot someone else at the field down.

I was a little apprehensive about that myself.

I've had my system out at the field once... and there didn't appear to be any interference with the 2.4 GHz radios. When I take it up the next time, I'll look for 2.4 GHz pins and notify the pilot accordingly. So far though, no problems.

Hi ,
I am planning to install 2 cameras on one 1/16 RC. tank, one camera on the driver hatch represents the driver and another one on the turret top represents the commander&gunner. I tried 2.4ghz CDD cameras but it didn't work because of interferences of each other.
And not only one tank I and my friends will play rc tanks together which means we will have many cameras using in the same time!!!
Any one knows how please suggest.
Thank you very much.

Read through this thread hoping for some answers to my desires... I want to take Still photos rather than videos. Basically, I think there's an opportunity to sell folks pictures of their boats, so I'm looking to put floats on an electric, take off the water, do a couple of passes over boats tied up together or anchored, maybe even some shots while under way. In most cases I would be able to contact the owner via VHF and ask if he would like the shot.

The picture would need to be fairly sharp when enlarged to 8x10.

Ok so there are the requirements, what's the best camera to go with?

Thanks in advance. BTW, boating season here in Northern Va. is still several weeks off.

Forgive me for plugging an eBay special, but Ihave been reading that these are getting pretty popular with the micro heli guys. Kinda limited, but for $10, worth a shot. I'm gonna get one for my mSR and try to take it out of the case and see if I can't get it down to the PC board and lens. Apparently, these things only weigh 5g anyway. High def, decent record time and VERY low light sensitive, 1Lux.

Well, I'll let you know how it works out when I get one.

Which camera system are you referring to?

Thanks,

It depends on how much the car shakes the camera. Vibration is the enemy of decent video. I spent the summer trying different camera mounts and vibration-dampening materials while flying 3 different cameras around on a helicopter. Each time I thought I had it figured out and could count on routinely recording good video, something else would start to shake and mess things up. Will likely spend the winter building a camera plane that can glide at times.

This is a Mini titan helicopter with a keychain little camera, first installed it on top of the canopy with velcro, but the image was bad like jelly, then I made a alloy bracket and now is on the belly frame

Hi all,
I've been flying for over 15 years, in Europe and all up the East Coast of Australia, I wish I had of recorded some of my comp winning flights and tricks that I stumbled on and some nasty stacks!!!

I really like the Go-Pro, but it looks hard to mount compared to an 808 key cam or is it? Also does anyone have any experience with the Go-Pro, they are $179.00 in Melbourne, is that a good deal?? Pro's and Con's of the Go-Pro versus an 808 keycam..

Thanks guys - I hope I was clear enough for you??

For anyone interested.

I've tried various cameras from different manufacturers including the FlyCamOne2.

I've tried small Sony cameras that have AV capapabilities.

The small keychain cameras and some of the hobby cameras produce less than stellar results.

I was disappointed with the FlyCamOne2, but the peripheral "hot foot" servo controller, etc... were somewhat nice if overpriced.

The Hero GoPro produces good results but I took the risk and purchased one of these on a whim.

[link=http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/store/__34114__HD_Wing_Camera_1280x720p_30fps_5MP_CMOS_U SA_Warehouse_.html]Wing Camera[/link]

I expected the above "wing camera" to produce video no better than the FlyCamOne2...

I was quite surprised to discover that the AVI's the wing camera creates are on par with the more expensive GoPro. Not bad for the price!
