Exhaust extension - effect on tuning rpm
I am setting up an OS46FX with a Jett Stream muffler.
I am using a 1/2 inch extension to make it fit the plane. I understand this will drop the tuning frequency of the exhaust somewhat. (I'm not shooting for all out speed, so that is fine - even good - for my application.)
The instructions that came with the muffler state the tuning rpm is 15000. My question is: what is the tuning rpm with the extension in place? I'd like to pick a prop that is a good match, so any info would be very helpful.
Thanks!

Exhaust extension - effect on tuning rpm
Hi Jim.
sorry for the delay in replying, but I was away on vacation.
The extension will drop the bottom end of the tuning range about 500 rpm, but the muffler has a broad band that goes well above 17,000.
You still want to prop the engine to run around 16,000 or so. Usually that combination will easily turn a 15,500 with a APC 10x6 so you may wish to start there.
Nice looking plane and installation. Let me know how the performance is !
