Can the BEC @ 5v ruin a package of 2s1p batteries?

Thanks,

Pucara

Sometimes people get BEC and LVC, the low voltage cutoff, mixed up. The BEC has nothing to do with shutting the motor off when the battery voltage gets too low; it simply regulates the battery voltage down to 5V to power the receiver and servos.

If you really meant LVC, then yes, it will damage a 2S1P LiPoly pack if you run the motor down to LVC. There are a few ways to avoid this, though:

1. Time your flights. To figure out how long you can safely fly, fly for a while, land, measure the voltage on the battery, fly some more, land again, measure voltage, and so on. Make sure you use a stop watch to measure how long you've flown.

2. Pay attention. When the power starts to drop off noticeably, land.

3. Get an ESC with a programable LVC. There are some LiPoly-specific ESCs out there, but the Castle Creations line has always been programmable in that respect. Program it for 3.0V per cell, or as close as you can get to that value.

Matt,

Thank you for your kinldy answer. I really did not know there were besides BEC LVC. Here in The Netlerlands Schulze Controller is popular, Castle Creations not. I will take your advise of messuering the Volts.

Best regards,

Pucara
