Default Triton EQ- Problem charging 5 cell NiMh Pack

I am having a problem charging 5 cell NiMh cells using my Triton EQ charger. The charger never reaches the end of the charging cycle and then goes on tricle charge. This seems to happen with 5 cell packs.

Anyone else having this problem

As far as I understand the Triton EQ , it only goes to trickle after the end of a peak charge, right?

It does display end of charge data like capacity and time. Are those readings normal?

Voltages and time indicate that the pack is fully charged. The charger then doesn't indicate "end of charge" and go to trickle as is the normal case in the normal charge cycle. This problem only surfaces with 5 cell NiMh packs. Anyone else experience this.

Could it be that the trickle is ONLY available on NIcad and not NIMH. Maybe NIMH get a 20 minute top-off?

Upon checking the manual it is addressed on pg 6 and 7 (kinda) It apears they make no distinction between NItypes and I don't see where a "trickle" message will apear. Only an "end" message with a trickle charge being applied until removal. I assume the fast charge does end , yet the trickle isn't happening.

No, the fast charge doesn't end. It just keeps charging.

Well, that makes it more interesting and a different approach to diagnosis.

I suppose the question then to ask is does the pack overheat and/or does the voltage start to drop toward the end? I'm gonna guess that the pack is so very close to full that the charger will shut off if allowed to finish. Chances are that if you had left it go it would've stopped within minutes (unless the pack is already overheating and voltage is dropping more than 50 mv)

The battery is past full charge. I'm really looking for comments from people using a Triton EQ who charge a 5 cell NiMh.
