Default Charge/balance wire length

In the spirit of safety, I am setting up a metalic ammo box to charge my li-po batteries in. To do so effectively, the charge and balance leads need to be longer, however, in my charger's instructions there is a mention that the charge lead length should never exceed 20cm, and while there is no mention of the length for the balance lead, the one that I have is very short and a brief search online for extensions yielded no results.

Clearly I don't want to create another safety issue by extending the wires if this will somehow cause a problem. The length of the balance lead gets even in the way of properly securing my batteries in a lipo sac so if there is no issue with doing so, I'd like to extend it.

My questions are: is there an issue if I extend both wires, say no more than 1 ft. and if so why? If the answer is no, and there is no issue with extending the wires, where can I get a balance lead extension?

Thanks!

Using leads that are big/thick will pose no problems and I've been getting my balance extensions from HobbyKing.

Thanks. As for the balance lead extension, I had already searched hobbyking before I mapped this post, and I searched yet again but unless I am losing my mind, I couldn't find one.

Since you have already purchased it, would you be kind enough to post a link?

Also, the reference to "big/thick" is somewhat subjective. Wile I fully recognize that he size of the wire depends on amps being drawn, and generally speaking g bigger is likely better, I would like to know what wire gauge would be appropriate for a lead wire length of say, 1-1.5 ft.

Many thanks!

I use mostly XH and 3s extensions. One set-up uses 3 of them together. http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/s...idProduct=9736 , but I have no idea what size is required nor do I know what size these are. I think to use at least the same size as your existing leads would be appropriate without looking at a bunch of charts.

oops, I forgot that there a fellow that makes perfect custom leads/adapters and could probably make exactly what you want. I'll try to post his name soon. I think that this is HIm http://www.rcuniverse.com/community/...e&memid=338491
