mismatching cell capacities
Hello, maybe somebody here knows. I have a 6 cell battery pack for a small foam electric plane. The cells are all 500mah Nicad Batteries from Sanyo. I would like to add another battery to the pack to give it a little more voltage so that the plane will fly a little faster. I know the motor and esc will handle a 7 cell pack so that's not a problem. My problem is that I can't find anymore of the small 500mah batteries. It looks like sanyo now only make 600mah in that size. My question is can I add the 600mah cell to battery pack? Or will having mismatched capacities cause a problem.

it will cause a problem for sure. the other batteries will get discharged first and the last battery pack could get reverse polarized cells in it.
There should be lots of places u can get a 600 mah 8.4 volt pack (stock Sky Scooter) or if your esc can handle it i know radioshack makes a 1600mah 9.6 volt pack that weighs only slightly more than the 8.4 v pack

There are many places that still sell the Sanyo 500AR cell. However, you may wish to consider replacing your NiCd pack with an equal size and weight HECELL NiMH pack that has double the capacity (1000mAh).
