Default Do More Voltage and Cells = More Power and Flight Time?

So all these letters like NiMH NiCD Mah Lipos AA djfas;dcnepoicnmas;dklca.... is kinda confusing to me... Basically what i want to know is... If I run a battery that is a 10 Cell 5/4 AAA 800 mah and 12v instead of a battery that is 8 Cell 5/4 AAA 800 mah 9.6v... does this mean that I will have more power with my motor and possibly more flight time???

Yes and no. You will have more power but since more power = more watts, you will have less flight time. To get more flight time, you need a battery pack with a higher mah rating.

Of course, if you are good at throttle management, the flight time might not be lowered enough to make a huge difference. At the same time, more power can be useful at times. Just make sure your esc and motor can take the extra voltage/current.

So your saying that... if I have similar batteries and the only difference is one has more voltage, if I were to run the one with more voltage I would have more power but less flight time then if I were to run the one with less voltage?

If you leave everything else the same, and use the same power setting, then yes. Higher volts = less flight time.

Here's the formula that explains it. I (current) = E (voltage) divided by R (resistance). If voltage = 10 and resistance = 10 then the current would be 1 amp. The resistance (motor) is staying the same, so if we increase the voltage to 20, the current would increase to 2 amps and flight time would be about half.

Each cell in a NIMH or a NiCad gives you aprox 1.2 volts no matter what size cell (Mah). More cells = more volts. The Mah Number is like how large a tank you have. Larger number of the mah on the cells the longer motor run. Now that does not mean longer flights. Larger cells are usually heavier so flight time may suffer from the added weight. Too many cells will over volt your motor or speed controler too. What motor are you using? What is the voltage rating of the motor? What size and number of cells in the battery pack?

I'm using the stock motor that comes with a Wattage Tangent... 370 motor with 3.67:1 gear drive. The recomended battery is 8 Cell, 800mAH 5/4AAA Ni-Mh Pack but I have two batteries left over from a Wattage Turbo Hawk I recntly landed to hard... haha. The batteries I want to use (the ones I have from the Turbo Hawk) are 10 Cell, 800mah 5/4AAA NiMH packs.

You are risking burning up your motor and ESC by adding 2 more cells.

really.... hmm, maybe I should just get an eight cell pack with a higher Mah rating. Thanks for all your help!

If your intent is to help with flight time I suggest you use my three step cure for this. (1) land plane (2) switch battery packs(3) take off. problem solved. (works every time)
