Default Disposing of lipos?

I had a crash yesterday with one of my lipo packs and damaged the pack. I have put it in a safe place in case it has been shorted, but now I don't trust this pack anymore. I can't remember what is the proper way of neutralizing lipos to discard. I think it has something to do with saltwater, but thats all.
Can someone explain to me the proper way to dispose of lipolys?
I can't seem to find any info online about this.

Thanks!

Apparently, you're not searching the right venues or using the right words... Disposing LiPolys has been a pretty common subject of discussion over the years.

The process is simple, really: Soak the pack in salt water until it stops bubbling, then dispose of the pack in the normal trash. Salt concentration is irrelevant; as long as the water is salty, you're good. The salt water will gently discharge the battery, rendering it inert, and the bubbles you'll see are nothing to be afraid of. It's just electrolysis at work, the electricity separating the water into hydrogen and oxygen.

First, though, make sure you REALLY need to dispose of the pack. I don't see where you describe anything other than you "don't trust" the pack. Is it puffed up? Are there any major creases or dents in the cells?

One of the cells (of a 3 cell pack) has a big dent in it on one corner.

Do I have to puncture the envelope of the cells first?

Please explain.

Thanks for the reply.

Nope, just dunk the cells, as-is, into salt water and leave them there for a few days. If you really want to be sure, test for voltage with a voltmeter. It should read near 0, if not 0.

Crash,
Don't destroy the pack 'till you've proven it bad. Just 'cause it's dented don't mean it's bad!! You should see some of the cells I fly!

How would I determined if it is bad or not. Put it on a charge? I have let it sit for the last couple of days, and it hasn't burst yet, is that a good sign?

Yeah mate shes good .... If it wasnt it would have puffed up and hissed or something ... charge her up and keep an eye on the pack as you do. Good to see you took the precautions though.[sm=wink.gif]

I was under the impression you were suppose to discharge the battery first, then puncture the casing and place in salt water to neutralize the chemicals inside.
