Default Piper J3 Cub battery

Hi, I'm new to the forums. I have a Piper J3 Cub, it's very similar to the ParkZone one but I bought it in Conrad and it's not engine speed controllable. The 3rd channel is just a switch. Full speed or off. I'm going to buy a new battery. The current battery I have is Ni-MH 1300mAh, 7AA's. The voltage I got from volt meter was 9,5-10,5V. I have another battery at home which is 9,6V 750mAh Ni-Cd. I have different stock charger for both. My question is will the plane work with the other 9,6V battery? The connector is bigger on the other battery so I was thinking of making a converter. Is there any major difference in Ni-Cd and Ni-MH? Or is it just what charger you need?

I'm sorry I didn't want to read all the 55pages in the Piper J3 Cub thread.
