sfe to change leads on lipo?
I have a e-flite lipo with JST connector and I want to use it with my electrfly esc with deans plugs. Is it safe to change the plugs on the lipo? Do I just do it like any other batt?

RE: sfe to change leads on lipo?
I've changed a number of connectors on lipo's. Here are a few thoughts on the subject:
1. Be absolutely certain that you maintain correct polarity. Identify the correct leads before taking off the old connector, identify how they will go on the new connector, and verify they are correct after the soldering is done.
2. Cut only one battery lead at a time, solder it to the new connector, and then cut the second lead. Temporarily tape over any exposed leads and connector pins while handling battery and soldering. I like to temporarily "tape back" the lead I'm not working on to keep it out of my way.
3. Keep in mind that accidently shorting a nicad is bad enough, but shorting a lipo may cause a fire hazard to the battery itself.
4. Changing balance leads requires considerable study and concentration to get it right. Lots of ways to go wrong. Unless you're very savvy in the exlectrical world, it's safest to leave the balance leads alone.
5. I'm not the expert here, so if anybody comes in with conflicting advice -- listen to them too.

I agree with otrcman, particularly the bit about doing one lead at a time.
before you solder on the new connection, first slip a piece of heat shrink sleeving up the wire, then solder, and then slip the sleeve over the xposed joint and hheat shrink to cover it up. and then move onto next wire etc etc this way you never have 2 wires exposed at same time with risk of short/fire
