Default Battery charger on car battery

Does anyone know why I'm not getting any power when I hook up my Hobbico charger to my car battery in my Saturn Ion? The charger works when attached to a car battery not in a car.

You are not making contact with the battery terminals or have reversed the connection. Make sure plus is plus and negative is negative..

That is a valid assumption but not correct. Red to red, black to black, and the plugs are clamped on tight. Any other thoughts?

Not that I can come up with remotely. Have you tried any other device or just a simple 12 volt bulb to try and trouble shoot the reason?
