Default lipo safety question

i overcharged one lipo cell to 4.36v. the battery, a 2s 5000mah turnigy, did not puff or get warm.

is there danger in now discharging, or even using the battery once, since it is well charged? And, if the battery does work, can i then reasonably try charging it again, keeping a close eye on the volts?

do i have to throw it out now? i mean, now that the pack physically survived the overcharge and stayed cool, is there actual danger in using or discharging the pack? (assuming of course that i avoid an over discharge situation) ....

thanks.

It should be discharged down to 4.2 imediately (can be done at a slow rate)

I would try to figure how this happened in the first place.

I think it was not charged for too long and got way out of balance. And thiak you for the advice.

I tried to discharge it,using my triton eq, and it would have none of it I kept getting an error message saying cell voltage too high, which I guess it is . . . .

Any further advice? Just run the battery with my car or boat to discharge it?

Thanks!

That would work or you can use the Triton to do it on another battery type (nicad or nimh) Watch the voltage carfully and stop at 4 volts or so.

The pack seems rather suspect to me and needs to be checked out well.

Russian Roulette from now on.

Definately ONLY place, store or charge it in the middle of a CLEAN concrete floor.

Make sure your house insurance is always paid.

Are you SURE the charger is not having a stroke once in a while ?
Or are you using a NIMH / NICAD charger and trying to catch it just right ?

How else can a battery get zapped ? Either way. Good luck on a concrete floor.

thanks for your post.

it was a triton eq set in lipo and hooked up to the balancing board . . . . i don't know what happened but the batteries sat for a few months after coming here from hong kong with no charging and maybe that did it. but i'll just keep an eye on it.

when i balance charged it i stopped frequently to check my progress with a device that tells the per-cell voltage, i'm sure there is a name for such a device, a lipo tester?

This statement APPLIES TO EVERYTHING ANYONE BUYS.

FULLY TEST every dam part & operation COMPLETELY !!!

Crap is mass produced & then stored FOREVER. Retail sales are 10 years later in some cases.

Test it the same day received...........NEVER EVER OPEN A crushed box. Call the seller of it. THEY WILL THEN PAY ALL CHARGES.

Potentially this can damage the battery/boat (if it catches on fire) Using it with another pack will tend to mask the problem and make it harder to detect if there is a problem.

Right, the odds favor the weakling blowing up and at that time it will then set fire to your good one also. Feeling lucky.
