Dx6i or Dx7?
Hi all, long time reader first time poster.
I know thse radios have been compared before, and I've seen similiar threads before. I'm just looking for a little advice, and I'm sure another thread hurts nobody.
I'm looking to buy my first programmable radio. In the short term, it will be to control a Blade MCP X. But I'd like a radio thathas enough channels andprogram options forother helis/air in the long term.
I was just going to buy a DX6i and be done with it, a DX8 is out of my price range. But for only $40 more, I can pick up a Dx7. Now, I know the DX7 is being discontinued, but otherwise it's a better radio than the DX6i.
Do you guys think that the DX7 being discontinuedis a good reasonto avoid it? Is it considerably better than the Dx6i? I don't mind spending another $40 for more options in the long term, even if the Dx6i is plenty for a MCP X. I'll probably move up to a Blade400 3d (or similiar)at some point. Perhaps my best option is to keep saving and get a DX8 (these are considerably more expensive, so I'm not keen on that idea).
The price on the DX7 seems like a bargain, likely because its being phased out.
Any advice?

They are both good radios. The DX7 isn't as intuitive as the DX6 to program though by a long shot. It does have a manual though.
The 7 feels more substantial, is actually thinner in cross section, and the gimbals are a lot smoother to operate.

I've owned the DX6I and after buying a JR 9303, the DX6I feels cheap. I don't care for the 7 either, but if had to choose, I would go with the 7. I've also had failures with the 6 and other people I know had similar issues.

RE: Dx6i or Dx7?
I have a DX7 (heli version). I bought it to fly my Hirobo Sceadu .50 EVO SWM and it works just fine. I also bound it to my Blade CX2 and it worked just fine too.
Most of the pilots in our club seem to have JR 9303 or variants. A couple of them have DX7's to fly Hirobo SDX's and bought them for the same reason I did. Sufficient functionality and low price (in comparison to the JR). I can do just about anything the others can do with their transmitters.
My plan is to move up to a better one when I "need" to. I also know that the DX7 has good resale value so don't anticipate much trouble in selling it when I move up. The DX8 looks like an exciting candidate when I see the "need"!

What is resale on a DX6i? Just curious as I have one only a few months old for my m series and SR. I havent found out how to program it for the SR yet and still learning on the mSR and mCX.

I looked on e-bay out of curiosity. There's one with 4 days left with a current bid of $90.98. Item number is 120697599016 if you care to follow it to the close.
I put it on my watch list so maybe I'll find out the "real" value.

OK the last two DX7's sold for $162 and $166 on e-bay, so that's probably what you can expect to get for a used one in good condition (for heli, mode 2).
