Finally worked out the picture thing, here is my cx2. THe body is themed on a Russian Kamov Black Ghost. It has wing tip nav lights, red & green, I love lights!!, 2 white led's, and a flashing red tail led. Rocket things from small straws wrapped in paper! Its a heavy old bird, and flys lazy like this, it does not like moving arond quickly, alloy swash, micrheli alloy upper and lower blade grips (not over impressed, sloppy fit), xtreme knock back blades (very good), shortened flybar. I had upgraded motors, but they wher rubbish, far too amp hungry for little or no improvement. Copy stck battery, 10 mins top flight time. When I take all this off, including the lights, I get 12 mins from a pod and boom set up.

I have a tow cobra project on the way, and a huey, will post progress soon!

Devlin, nicely done. Where is that fuselage from and which lights are you using?

Its the stock red blade fuselage, rubbed down with 1200 wet and dry, sprayed with plasticote aerosols, polished to death with cutting paste, then cream polish. In the flesh, the finish is really nice. I used a "plastic primer" to make the paint key.

The lights, 2 white LED's, and flashing red, plug straight into the spare ch5 ( I think?) on the 4:1., www.stevewebbmodels.co.uk however they are dead easy to make. The green and red nav lights, bought from Maplins (UK electrical store) they are square, not domed so fit in the wing tips really nice, They cost pennies, the only thing to remember is solder in a voltage resistor, again pennies, to stop them blowing, LED'S only work at the correct voltage, not like normal pigmy syle bulbs which will just be a bit brighter or dimmer

Just a couple of quick pics of my latest upgrades, sorry about the lame background...no mountains []:

All MicroHeli shaft parts: upper and lower heads, bearing cup and swashplate.
Flybar Mod (Soloboss Style)-Big Ups to goldslinger for the CF tubes
Boomtown Hobbies CF Tailboom and Flex Skids
Vented Canopy (I also trimmed the upper cowling to expose the swashplate and reduce weight)
Stock Tail section cut to fit over CF tailboom

i took the microhelis off - too much yo-yo and weird blade wiggle causing loss of lift and dropping - i read here somewhere to put washers in the grips to stop the blade weirdness, but i've been doing single-rotor so much i never got around to it - how does that work with the thin air?

heading up so soon now - only waiting on tuning!

edge,

I don't have the blade grips so I have no issues with wobble or balance problems.
From the beginning, even with all stock, the only issues I've noticed is slightly shorter flight times than average. I also have high heat at the motors (115-125F) and battery (105F) which I also think effects the 4 in 1. But it flys great.

Thanks.

Don't know about the MH blade grips but many members are having better luck with the Xtreme grips and blades.

I'm not having luck with the Xtreme grips and blades....my CX2 is totally completely head over heels in love with the Xtreme grips and blades. Absolutely worth every penny! I couldn't be happier with the performance of them. Simply the best. I'm starting to sound like Goldslinger all of a sudden No I don't have any stake in the company...just wish I did

Default RE: CX2 *Pics*and Upgrades.

I had FUN over the weekend! I was in Heli-Heaven! I installed the Xtreme Sport upgrade on one of my CX2's and then I upgraded the other one with X180 motors. I also set up and tied to fly my new Walkera #4 and I also got in some CCPM setup time on my TREX!

I must say that I LOVE the Xtreme upgrade! No more paying E-Flite for their crappy blades! Well, that's not entirely true. My other CX2 is still set up with stock blades. Oh well.

One problem I have noted is that the aluminum lower head on the Xtreme CX2 has now separated, like a few others here have described. It looks like a filure of the lower part of the head, rather than simply slipping on the shaft as hasd happened to me in the past. I might have to temporarily go back to the stock lower head until I can get my hands on a MicroHeli lower head and swash plate.

Here's some pix to review. Please pardon my paint job. It's the first time I have done this. I put three coats of metallic red on her and then I sprayed a coat of black to give it good contrast. Unfortunately, the black spray got on the outside of the Heli as well. Say, what's teh deal with the decals? Do you have to cut those out with an exacto knife, or what?

Thanks! [8D] It took a bit to get her dialed in correctly, though. goldslinger's upper head mod, plus adding extra flybar weights really did the trick!

thanks for including my pic J-Michael lol

that bird its gone now, im working to make a stronger brushless set up now, here is what i am using

2 - Razor 400 brushless motors (i dont like chinese ones) (120 dollars total)
2 - Castle Creations Phoenix 10 (60 dollars total on ebay)
1 - Futaba GY240 gyro (100 dollares total on ebay)
boom and skids from Jamie (24 dollars total)
upgraded inner shaft with metal rotor head (i dont remember)
Spectrum AR6100e (with my dx7 [>:] ) (28.50 dollars on ebay)

and im sure this baby will handle 3S packs with ease!!!
but i will make sure i take pics of the whole process to share it with everyone in rc universe forum

the total mod will cost around 250 dollars but as long as i can have a blast flying this lil devil at the office is totally worth it hahahaha

That looks sweet BryFlyGuy67!
makatron did you really put that much money and time into a CX? Why not spend that $250 on a CP or similar? The CX can only do so much.

I broke my main frame a while back and have just been gluing it after each crash. I finally put a new frame, inner and outer shafts on her. Flies much better now. We have all crashed and broken many many parts, but who has actually worn out parts? I have only had this heli for just over a month, but with 4 batteries and working in a high school has allowed me ample time before and after school for flying in the gym.

Worn Out:
Both motors
servo
Aluminum Swash plate (no longer pivots nice, tried oiling it, needs some carb cleaner on it)

Big mods:
Xtreme Blades (love em, but clack easier then stock) and motors
carbon tail
Battery mod (kept breaking it)
Bunch of aluminum parts.

What is the most unusual part you have damaged?
I would say the underside of the upper head as pictured is scuffed up somehow?! Check the first pic below.

Man, I'm seeing some really 'tight' helis; I guess I had better get busy and learn how to paint a canopy. (better order several). [&o]

@xxxcustom: you still need a gyro to control the upper rotor and the brushless must not exceed 25 grams or you will have some trouble going airbourne, the mamba will work but it all depends on the total weight of the setup, i tried figeao and hacker motors now i wanna use razor motors cause they are top notch and i just dont wanna use chinese ones (el cheapo) cause they rely on speed but they have a lack on torque, if you give me the weights of those parts you wanna use i can tell you if they would work

i already have a t-rex 450 and my recent add to the fleet Raptor 50 titan, i just wanted to add something different to the cx2,

plus, if you think about it, everything i have put into the upgrade list can be used later in another heli and of course i still have the stock parts so i can take the upgrade parts and make it stock again and still fly with ease

and im telling u guys, with a 1200mah pack you can fly for 15 mins without smoking anything of the electronics
i just love to mod things and this one was totally worth it

Thanks, man! I feel REALLY STUPID right now, though! One of the things I did wrong when painting my canopy (or so I thought) was to get a little bit of black paint on the outside of the canopy. Well.... last night, I was cutting some ventilation holes in the new Xtreme canopy and discovered that the outside of the canopy has a protective, removable plastic coating on it! [sm=red_smile.gif] Anyway, when I figured that out, I peeled all of it from the outside and MAN was it better looking! Of course, all of the black paint I had oversprayed on the outside came off and it also let the metallic highlights of the paint really shine through! I'll attach a pic, but this doesn't really do it justice.

I have two more canopies coming from BoomTown soon. I can't wait to get started painting them!
