Default battery charge time

hey, me again, so it begins, the supplied battery and charger for the cx2 is taking about 2hours and 15min to charge, is this normal? have emailed common sense rc for replacement batteries for this and my trex, but curious as to whether this charge time is the norm as it is a real deterent for useing this heli, as reference my thunder power 11.1v 2100mAh battery on the 1010 charger and 205 balancer takes about 20 minutes to charge

No, not normal unless you are running a higher-rated battery pack or you are running your packs too long and discharging them too much.. What is the battery in question here? If it's stock, how long are you flying it? Is it considently over 2 hours? Have you tried charging your pack on your other charger?

BTW, a 20 minute charge for a TREX 2100 mAH pack sounds WAY too short, unless you are only flying for 5 minutes or something. You don't want to charge at anything mor ethan 1C, which by definition takes about one hour, assuming that your charger is capable of charging at more than one Amp.

It sounds to me like you have a bad charger. Even with my stock charger (I've since moved on to something more professional), I could fly a pack for 9 - 10 min, using ~ 600 of the 800 mAH and it would only take about an hour to charge. My better charger (Triton Jr w/ Equinox balancer) takes about teh same amount of time, but charges the packs much better than stock.

I would call your vendor / LHS and tell them what's happening. They will probably give you a new charger.

Oh, do you have any other packs for teh CX2 that you can test on your charger?

My stock charger has always taken 1 1/2 to 1 3/4 hours to charge the stock and after market batteries. (discharged voltage of 7.2-7.5v and fully charged voltage of 8.3-8.4v)
Never less than that even after shorter flights.

My results with stock charger and lipos are exactly the same as Wolf described above!

You mentioned considering replacing the replacing the packs with some of our CX2 packs. These packs, along with all of our packs at Common Sense RC are now certified for charging at 2c meaning you can charge the 800mah packs at 1.6 amps. This equates to approximately 30minute charge times.

Do you think that will reduce the life, total number of cycles, of the batteries?

Don't know if you're the battery expert there but has any high altitude testing been done with your batteries.
I live at 8,000 ft and can't seem to get more than 50 cycles out of any battery before flight time starts to decrease.
I've logged every cycle with flight time, charge time and end voltage and can't find a reason for the short life, thinking it might be altitude related. End voltage is never below 7.2-7.4 volts.

Thanks

I must be lucky and have gotten two stock E-Flite chargers that charge my packs in an hour, then. Cool!

It takes about an hour with the stock charger.

About 30mins to an hour with the Multiplex LN5014.

If you look on the E-flite charger it says the charge rate is .65A which is on the conservative side.
I would still not charge over 1C (.1A for every 100mAh). For example charge a 800mAh battery at .80A.
All of the battery manufacturers, that send literature with their batteries, recommend that. At least the one's that I have and excluding the CSRC batteries as stated above.
