Hi, I recently purchased a Blade cx2 and wondered if it is necessary to lubricate any of the moving parts i.e. Bearings, cogs or gears and if so what type of Lubrication should be used

I wouldn't recommend lubricating the gears. I read somewhere that people had bad experiences doing that. I was told to use triflow lubricant. I found some on helihobby.com. Or you could just google it. It is supposed to be really good and not collect dust. The only thing I can think of is to lubricate the bearings.

Lube the bearings only, unless you have a metal swash plate. If so, I recommend a drop or tow on that every now and then.

I personally only lube my bearings, I'll take them out, place them in a corner of a plastic bag, fill it with a little lube, twist the bag, squish it around, then dry them with a paper towel. It washes all the dirt and buildup inside them.
From what I understand about the gears is that they are self lubericating, Plastic on metel parts do not need grease or oil. It will only junk up your gears and attract dirt.
I've heard of people lubing their motors and others yelling at them for that. Some have said to not lube anything at all.
Caution: Some lube's will expand plastic and soften it. Use something wiht 100% pure silicone or read the lable to make sure its safe.

I squirted a little WD40 on the bearings and swash (metal swash) and so far doesn't seem to have caused any problems.
I'm also UK based so if TRIFLO is the way to go, keep us posted about UK equivalents.

I also fly the CX2 and am also in the UK !

DO lubricate bearings - ie: Swashplate / Lower Gear Bearing set / Upper Bearing set. I also put a drop of lube on the plastic Balls that the Servo arm sockets link onto, for smooth operation. Same goes for Flybar linkage.

DON'T need to lubricate metal on plastic (ie Gears) as the Two materials are chosen this way for good contact and to help reduce wear and tear, so not necessary to lube there.

Hi, H3li, what kind of lube do you use ? Do you use WD40 the same as mcdermj or a different type?
Not yet managed to locate any Tryflo in the UK, to be honest I’ve not spent too much time looking, will have a good look this weekend and let you know if I find it.

No, I dont use WD40 - it's a specialist R/C Lube, specifically for r/c Craft.
Cars, planes, Helis etc.

Picked it up from my local Hobby Store.
I will Post further details this evening on the stuff i use (as i am at work now, and dont remeber its name)!

However, it has a long needle thick end to it, so is perfect for when you want to place some Lube EXACTLY in the right place - without getting everything else soaked! You only need the smallest drop.

WD40 is not a lube. WD stands for Water Displacement. Its is more akin to a penitrating oil. IT also evporates leaving very little lube left.

The stuff I have here is called " LRP Blue Factor - Ball Bearing Oil ".
Says on the bottle, synthetic oil, specially designed for ball bearings and all other RC-applications.

Small bottle with Red cap. Only use a few drops anyway, so should last a good while.

Well you learn something new every day, I did not realise WD40 was a water dispeller, there’s me oiling my pushbike chain with it.. thanks Drewed.
