Default CX2 motor upgrade

Whilst looking for a new motor for my cx2 I came across this (see picture) Dose anyone know if replacing the motor is a good upgrade? The cost is not much more than the original equipment.

The description for the motor is as follows (taken from the website I found them on)

Ball Bearings 180 motor for Esky Lama, Robins, and Eflite BCX2
Less current draw and runs cooler than the original one.
Quick Change Carbon Brush system, makes maintenance work easier.
Magnet is stronger,it gives you more torque compare to old motor.
Throttle feeling more direct and smooth.

Oh yes. Very good motor. Stock motor uses Carbon brushes and is a good replacement for stock motors. Runs somewhat cooler. Optional Silver brushes deliver far more power than stock and run cooler. Do take the time to break the brushes in. The better the break-in the better the results.
I run the Xtreme motors with the Xtreme LiPO packs and I'm satisfied with the results.

This might sound like a silly question but how do you break the bushes in?

Just hook it up to two double A batteries and let it run for 30 minutes to a hour. I am personally to lazy to do that so I just plug it into the 4 in 1 or if you have a 3 in 1 and set the motors on the ground and set the throttle up enough to let it spin slowly. I do it for an hour but around thirty minutes and up should be good. Then with each flight they will break in a little more and you will see more performance and the blades will rotate much easier.

I see, thanks for that.
I’ve ordered the motors so as soon as they arrive I’ll break them in. Thanks again.

Lostboy, can I please ask where you picked up your X180 Motors?

I have my eye on these also, and plan to make a purchase pretty soon (and as you may remember from before, Im also in the UK)?

Cheers, look forward to your reply.

Note: I've also read that the "DN" brand LiPo batteries work VERY well with these X180 motor upgrade.
The batteries have a slightly higher 'C' rating and give your CX2 alot more punch!

All the best with your motors, plz let us know how you find they perform?

Cheers.

Default RE: CX2 motor upgrade

I had the Xtreme CNC blade grips with the eflite aluminum swash plate, upper and lower rotor heads, and the Xtreme hard blades on my CS for some time. Love the fact that I haven't broken any blades in a month and the heli fly’s perfectly.

However, I have recently removed the CNC grips and replaced them with the Dynam Vortex plastic grips to reduce the rotating weight. Big difference in how quickly the motors spoon up now. Unfortunately, the larger ball size for the linkage on the lower rotor forces me to use the Dynam linkage between the lower blade grips and the swash plate, Therefore, I must use the Dylan Vortex plastic lower rotor head as well because of the way the linkage is held by the lower rotor heads.

Any ideas as to what heli uses the larger style linkage ball on the blade grip and uses the elite style lower rotor head?
