People are having good success with the XM Hobbies G401B, also available at chaosrc.com, for $40.
I have not tried mine yet.
For less than $50 you are really stuck with a gyro like the G401B or a Telebee.
I'd spend a little more and get a Logictech 2100T for around $80 on ebay.
Mine works great, amazing hold, and independent endpoint adjustment.

You take a chance that a G401B or a Telebee will hold solid all the time . My G401B never did hold solid all the time.
The current Hitech 5000 ( Logictech 2100t ) always works. Spend your money once. I've learned this the hard way.
