RE: Struggling with single rotor basics V2
Thanks, Ivan. But what sucks is there was no LHS' that had the prop. The best I could do was pay 2.5 times what I paid for the boat for a brass one! I ordered 2 composite ones for less than the brass one! Hopefully, it will get here quick - shipping was 1/2 the total cost - that's what I get for being impatient!
Hey, Alex. During your study of radio waves & 2.4GHz did you come across anything about it in water? I kept losing control of the boat about 3/4 of the way across the lagoon & it's not that big. The Rx is in the back which sits pretty low in the water at full speed. It might also be the shadow of the the large 550 metal motor. What do you think? I'm trying to find someplace to relocate it & any advice you might have to offer would be appreciated.
The work bench is finally clear & all my miscellaneous projects are now complete (baring any more garage sale finds! LOL) I can get back to building the new heli. I'd like to maiden it before the snow flies.

Is there a preferred side to mount the tail servo? I have a pretty large one that's going to hanging out back there & I'd like to make sure it's right.
Thanks.
Chuck

I usually put the elevator servo on the right side of the heli and the tail servo on the left. Puts a tail boom between your tail servo and a blade / paddle in the event of a crash.

Sorry been out of it last couple of days. The water would dampen the radio waves, usually you want long wave lengths, but it’s still going to be a problem. Best bet would be to have a1/2 wave length antenna above the 550 motor. Are you using a surface Rx, or Air? I would think surface Rx's have longer antennas to avoid the Fresnel zone .

Ivan - I assume the right side looking from the nose. Thanks.
Alex - it's a Losi land radio I stole off my buggy I'm trying to sell. I moved the Rx to the under side of the removable cover & drilled a small hole for the antenna to come out. Hopefully, that will work better. If I ever get the prop....
Jerry - that was pretty cool. I'd like to see that thing try to fly in a little wind!
Hi, Phil.
1st day in a long time with no wind to maiden my new plank but I was up most of the night sicker than a dog! Not sure I should try today.

Chuck, as if you were sitting in the heli flying it.
Jerry, sweet plane. That is a pretty funny idea. I like it.

RE: Struggling with single rotor basics V2
I finished rebuilding my V50 today. Final parts count is:
Link
Frames
Breakaway tabs
Starter Shaft
Clutch bearing
Clutch bell
Clutch
Pipe
Fuel tubing
Fuel magnet foam
Check valve
Backplate RPM sensor
Gear struts
Gear Tubes
Boom
Boom supports
Horizontal stabilizer
Tail hub
Tail output shaft
Tail blades
I think that was enough. Darn close to a rekit. Fun rebuild, though. I put the frames on one side at a time so that way none of the electronics position changed. Test flight tomorrow after the Permatex stuff cures, weather and funfly permitting.

RE: Struggling with single rotor basics V2
What's the best price you've found on those batteries and where? $5.95 at allerc is what I've found, so far.
Edit, best price so far... $4.99 at Readyheli, but they're out of stock. Helidirect is $5.95, ExperienceRC doesn't have them, yet.

Helidirect had them for $4.99 when they were not in stock. Now that they are back in stock, they are $5.95. LOL. I wonder if Readyheli will pull the same thing. I did a 4 min flight putting 160mAh back in and the battery.

Isure hope not. ReadyHeli is impressive sometimes on prices. Iknow you found the difference in KBDD Extremes, which Ithought was very cool. So, Iguess we'll see. Four minutes putting back 160 is great. You still had a few more to go! Do the batteries fit the mount properly?

RE: Struggling with single rotor basics V2
Hey, well since school started I've been kinda busy, but I've gotten in about a pack a day on average. But yesterday...
I WENT INVERTED!
I was finally flying at a bigger field, there wasn't much wind and I decided to try some aileron rolls. I just took it up 100 feet and then just..did it! It's so cool!!!

Scott, they fit the stock holder perfectly. You will like this battery.
Max, congrats!!! You are making progress in leaps and bounds.

Ah fearless youth! Good job Max!!
Alex - great vid!
Ivan - thanks for the mCP X battery update. So even though they are only 250mAH vs HK 300, they were better?! Wow.
Can anybody point me to a good website for setting up planks? I need to find out how to program separate aileron servos.

RE: Struggling with single rotor basics V2
So far Chuck, this battery is WAY better. The maiden sounded horrible!!! LOL. The prop you have was spinning too fast. That was the noise. The prop was actually fluttering.
Enable flaperon. Set all flap percentages to zero. Left aileron goes into AIL port, right aileron goes into Aux1. Use channel reverse to get ailerons moving in the right direction.

RE: Struggling with single rotor basics V2
Thanks, Ivan I'll try that. (What the h3ll is a flaperon? LOL) Cr@p a whole new vocabulary to learn....
On further inspection, I found that the motor mount was loose & I'm guessing it was like that out of the box, though I don't remember that noise when Alex flew it. There was no sign of any glue at the top of the motor mount. It's drying now. I have the 1st servo extension complete & 1/2 of the 2nd & then I can set up the aileron.

RE: Struggling with single rotor basics V2
thanks guys! It's an awesome feeling, doing new stuff. next time i fly I'll get my aileron rolls down, then on the second pack maybe try some flips? Are they a lot harder, and should I go for a loop first?
Chuck, a flaperon (on a plane at least) is basically 2 flaps in the back of the plane, each controlled by an individual servo, that can either both go up or down (when you give elevator) or both go opposite directions (when you give aileron aileron). Thus, they're called flaperons or elevons.

Max. Flaperons and elevons are different. You described elevons. Flaperons are when you program your ailerons to also act as flaps too. Your flaps switch would control the position of them.

RE: Struggling with single rotor basics V2
Thanks, Max. You inspire me to keep trying...
Ivan - There is a setting for DualAileron in the DX6i. There is also a V-tail & an elevon setting. The manual does not explain much about what they do. They do show where each control surface is located on the aircraft & which port to use so that's a start. They did mention but not explain "Flaperon or Delta wing type".
Right now I just need to get the ailerons more responsive & to be able to zero each independently.
Hey Alex - can you tell me the rule about WOT & nose postion. I forgot which was which for setting CG. The T-28 does go up under WOT.
