Default Sebart Katana S 50e or Sukhoi 29S 50e for 5S

I would like to build something to use my existing 5s 4900mAh batteries.
Any recomendations on which plane, out of the:
Sebart Katana S 50e or Sukhoi 29S 50e would be best, And what setup i should use on either.

I have 'molested' both planes and they both look great. I prefer the SU29. Most of the guys in RCG agree that the Katana is best for 3D and the SU29 for aerobatics. For a 5S set up look for a motor along these lines:

Hyperion 4025-12 with 16x10 or 16x12
The DualSky 4260-566KV is not the best but works ok with a 15x7 max

I prefer the idea of the SU29 myself, and it looks like it would probably handle the bigger packs.
Any idea on how it will go with 5S?

Using the new Rhino 4900

5S would not give you much power for those 'extreme' 3D maneuvers. I believe the punch out of a prop hang is okay only. Was like that when using the 5S Hyperion 4025-12 combo on my Angel S.

I fly a Seb art Sukhoi 29s 50E with a Hacker A50 16s turning an APC 16x10e powered by a TP 6 cell 3850mh. I can tell you that this setup is awesome! It will go vertical out of sight in very short order. Love mine and highly recommend this set up. In my opinion you would lose a lot of punch with a 5 cell. Although I'm sure it would fly ok.

I would go this way but i want to use the packs i have for my pattern plane, 2x5s 4900.
Apparently the 4025-12 can't be purchased anymore....so i'm still not knowing what to do????

This motor has been discontinued.
Any other ideas?

Tonye ... then try the Scorpion 4025-12, but you need a 16x12 I think. If not try to contact this shop, I think they still have the Hyperion in stock, I need a replacement for my Sebart Ms Wind:

Do you have a pic of the motor mount set up? I just got the same motor for my Inspire 60 and the instructions that come with it suck! I am not sure how it mounts as this is my first E powered plane.
any help especially pics would be appreciated
thanks

This will give you an idea.

You need to remove the fan and use the prop hub that bolts on in it's place.
Then bolt the cross mount where the shaft sticks out.

5S flew this plan, but wasn't enough. So i'm going to the recomended 6s setup.

tonye ... how does the plane fly? I got the 30 sized one ready, been so many weeks now and I have been either too busy or too lazy to maiden her. Guess if you want to 3D the 50 sized SU, you will need a 6S set up.

tph ... its called 'back mounted'. That means the rotating can is facing the front with prop adapter attached to it.

This plane flies great.
Very stable

5Sjust doesn't quiet do it with the hacker, even with th 17" prop

The 5S 4900 pack was actualy to light, only just balanced the plane.

So 6S 4000, should be great......i'll let you know

tonye ... I finally maidened my 30 sized SU29 last weekend. The plane needs a 4S 2,500 at the least of not she is very slightly tail heavy. The plane feels stable. I need to get used to her more ...

I have the Sukhoi 29 50, bought it about 2 years ago and it has at least 100 flights on it. Went with a RimFire 50-65-450-.120, CC HV85 and APC 16x8 prop. Tried it first on 5s and it performed nicely and would be acceptable but 6s 3200 30c really made it come alive. Pulls around 70a at full throttle according to my Eagle Tree data logger and hovers at 1/2 throttle. Here is a short video.

Claude ... please use the XOAR or APC ... some of those Hobby City props are not all that great. XOAR is really nice, I prefer it more than APC even.
