Lancair motor upgrade
Hello everyone,I am new to the world of electrics, but not to rc flying.Recently acquired a Electrify Lancair ep.It has a 400 brushed motor and a gear drive.I want to change that setup to a brushless motor direct drive and still use the 9" size props.I have no idea how to figure this out. What size motor, what kv rating, esc and batteries. The overall weight will be no more than 32 ounces.Any help will be deeply appreciated.

For this type of aircraft 100W/lb is probably more than sufficient.... so 200W should be plenty, and 300W would be a rocket ship.
A geared 400 would be around 100-120W... this motor is lighter than a geared 400....http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/s...00kv_560w.html.... it would give you way more than that (200W+).. you could even prop down to 8".
Probably the 1100Kv version would be enough using the 9" prop http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/store/__16230__NTM_Prop_Drive_Series_35_30_1100kv_380w.h tml/ 3s 1200-1500mAh battery, 30A ESC. http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/s...ontroller.html

A friend gave me the plane because it would not fly with the stock setup. I took and cut off the fire wall and cut some 1/8 lite ply to fit the fire wall used 5min epoxy to glue it in.Then i mounted a hobby king 3530 1100kv with a 40amp esc and used a 1800mah 30c lipo.i mixed in flaparons so i could slow down some for landing it worked very well. it was a super fast plane near if not 100mph.Don't worry about the weight so much that setup has more than enough power to get her to fly like a pro.
