Now most placves sell this for 80.00-99.00 plus shipping(if any) Total price on this one is 120.00 including shipping. If your RC budget is that tight that 20 bucks....forget it. There it is 120.00 shipped..take it or not.

RE: Nitromodels PREDATOR RQ-1B
I got way too tired of waiting. I really wanted to do aPredator UAV with a camera setup but ended up doing another Ultra Stick and it turned out very well. In fact I think I'm better off this way than with the predator because of the flight stability and added aerobatic capabilities of the Stick.
Here are a few videos showing my setup and one of me flying:

Hi Helomix
I am very impressed by your setup and the care you have taken over doing it and explaining it. And the flight video is awesome, My reason for choosing the predator however was because I have a thing about making my toy planes scale-like!
I have just finished my second predator with a degree of gyro stabilisation. I will post photos later if anyone is interested. My Global Hawk is still grounded... wonder if you have flown yours yet PapaJeff?

Chris,
The Global Hawk has been kind of put on hold till I can find the proper size EDF unit that will produce
sufficient power to fly scale like. So far, every combination has proved to be greatly underpowered.
MPI has a 56mm unit that I should have in about two weeks. I will let you know how the testing goes.

RE: Nitromodels PREDATOR RQ-1B
I have been following this thread for some time. Nitorplanes finally has some Predator UAV's in stock and mine is in the mail. I have a couple of questions. It appears you need two 24" extensions for the aileron servos, is this correct? What gauge wire did you use for the ESC to lipo, (I think I read 13 gauge stranded) and how long did it have to be? I also bought the 30 AMP Volcano series ESCand the Alpha 400 (920kv) brushless motor, (they were out of the 20-22L's).
It looks like a fun project and will make for some conversation at the field.
Thanks to everyone for all the pics and mods to hopefully make this a success.

RE: Nitromodels PREDATOR RQ-1B
Hey Cobra, I have had mine for sometime and I am finally getting around to the build.
I installed a towerpro A24-09-18 1000kv/180w and a 25amp towerpro esc from Hobby City.
Actually I bought everthing I needed from them to complete the build.
I used 3 X 18 inch Servo extensions. 2 for the Alierons and one for the ESC. I mounted mine in the back and ran the extension up forward through the fuse. You will need a
Y- connector as well.
I changed the wheels to 2 1/2 inch foam. Had to make a new front landing gear as the one I got had a coil into it and would not let me add a larger wheel. I fly in fairly rough terrain at times.
Changed my wings so they are removable using the ideas posted earlier.
Pretty crappy instructions, sure glad papajeff did a build thread. I also think they changed the model a bit because when I cut out underneath of the wing mounts it was just covering and no wood, as well as the front landing gear.
Anyone doing this with no experience and just using the manual would be in a bit of problem.
Also my fuse did not have cutouts for the servo wire to exit from the wings. Quick fix with a sharp #11.
As far as the esc to lipo I used what I had on hand and it is very close to the battery leads at the esc. 24 inch would give you plenty.

RE: Nitromodels PREDATOR RQ-1B
I'm pleased to hear that Nitro has the Predator back in stock and it's on sale, too! It seems that some
old nut case, dressed in camo, presented the Predator at the 2008 NEAT Fair this past September. The Predator
was flown by noted pilot Lynn Bowerman while Captain Chaos paid tribute to Danny Landis who flies the real
UAV - Hermes 450 in Afganistan.

RE: Nitromodels PREDATOR RQ-1B
I may be wrong but is there NOT a real Predator with the color scheme that it comes in. I cant find one anywhere. All the ones I can find are grey. Mine will certainly be grey as I cant stand the camo scheme.
I will be scaling it out as much as possible and I might put it in the statics at Toledo next year. Will probably go true UAV eventually using the ArduPilot or the Paparazzi. I already have my camera pan unit made for it.
I will be modding the rudder for true rudder funtionality, as well as making more scale like landing gear.
I have detailed close up photos of the real thing I got at the local airshow a few years back but I cant find them for anything. When I do I will post them.

I'm not sure if there is a full scale Predator in camo. You seem to be correct about the solid grey color.

Most are either all grey or white (Altair).

RE: Nitromodels PREDATOR RQ-1B
Well I got my Predator today!!!!
One of the wings is warped badly.
I removed the covering on most of it and must say I have never seen a more poorly built model. The way this thing is assembled, its would pretty much be held together by the covering only and I wouldnt see it lasting for too many flights as several of the glue joints came loose as I was carefully removing the covering. There are large gaps on most of the joints and some parts were just made incorrectly to begin with and would never fit properly.
All in all its a useable airframe for the money. I was planning on doing a bit to it anyway.

RE: Nitromodels PREDATOR RQ-1B
My Predator from post #262 has a new steerable nose gear.
NMYAK54, my Predator did not have any major problems but I was NOT impressed with the quality of the build.

RE: Nitromodels PREDATOR RQ-1B
Hi everybody
Just aquired a Predator after reading the comments from Pappajeff and Chrishornby I was impressed so much I just had to have one, the one I have is ready built and flyable but did not come with a manual [sm=48_48.gif], if anyone can help here with a scanned copy it would be very much appreciated, the problem I have is that the previous owner flew it on elevator only and no rudder with both control wires into one servo also the gaps between the control surfaces are 3 to 4mm which I feel should be a lot closer, I would like to get it back to its origianal configuration of ruddervators and a much needed steerable nosewheel which I will do over the winter months, any help would be appreciated.

I understand that there used to be a 84" version of the Predator. I would like to fly a camera. Is anyone aware of a larger version, or similar model in a larger size?

RE: Nitromodels PREDATOR RQ-1B
You can fly the 63" with a camera........and an OSD w/GPS and Xmittr.
Actually 2 cameras and 2 Xmittrs work fine. (Nav & Obs) just split the 2 freqs as far as possible. :-) Weightwise it flys fine.
~135W/Lb
