I just received it today. Seems like an incredibly good buy. I plan on selling my D6Xi on eBay for about $100 (I plan on using the AR6200 and it doesn't come with any servos). That brings the cost down to $350 - which is pretty good when you consider it comes with a 3300mah e-flite lipo battery, lipo charger, motor, esc, servos, and flaps (just need to add one servo).

I put it together in about 90 minutes - put the wing together, install wing landing gear, tail section and flaps.

Haven't flown it yet - scares me a bit as I've never flown anything this heavy (> 5 lbs)!

It's not scale - here's a comparison of a real T-34 and the model (the real one is owned by Julie Clark - americanaerobatics.com).

Just bought mine yesterday at a swap meet. I spent $350 on it (really good price). Since I use a FASST radio, I took the Spektrum radio/receiver out of it. I didn't even have the receiver fully out of the plane until someone started inquiring about the radio. I told him I would sell it for $150 and he bought....literally less than a couple of minutes out of the box!

I can't wait to fly this plane. However, I've got a small glitch. I took a working Futaba receiver out of my Trojan and put in the plane. Everything except for the throttle works. When I turn everything on, the plane makes almost continuous music. Most of the time, it's 5 fast beeps (almost like someone counting from 1-5 quickly). Anyone have an idea what might be causing this?

There's a huge thread over at RCGroups in the "electric warbirds" section. At the time its over 45 pages long. I'm being nosey over here for other information. If you venture over there, someone states that the ESC has been troublesome initially in some cases. ???

Here's mine after thirty minutes. Seems that I spent more time doing unpackaging inspection than tossing it together.

ps, sure would be nice to get a group consolidated in one place & lets rock a thread out on this gorgeous bird.

Hi guys,

As for the scale outline, it is around 80% acurate. It was noty intended to be truly scale in the outline, mods were made tyo make it fly the way it does...EXCELLENT!

As for the beeps, seesm odd, could your throttle channel be backwards? Not sure, you might try reprogramming the ESC and see what that gives you.

FWIW, I get 5 beeps also.

John, any chance on coming out with a Julie Clark "Free Spirit" version??

I took the Spektrum radio and receiver out of mine and put in a Futaba FASST. Everything worked except for the throttle. I also got the 5 beeps. After much nosing around, I was told to reverse the throttle servo.....WORKED LIKE A CHAMP! You would think there would be some continuity between manufacturers......

Try downloading the instructions and reprogram the ESC for 3S cutoff. Sounds like yours are in the 74% mode.

Bert,

I actually have met Julie and taken a ride in that sweet bird. She is an incredibly smooth pilot. My uncle was her flight certifier back when she flew for Republic Airlines many, many years ago. Nice picture with Mags in the back seat.

Not sure you would want to pay the royalties if we did that version.

Hi John,

I work at a small airport in Connecticut and she's been here several times. Her new dog is "Bernie". Here's a picture of Bernie ready to go.
Also, why can't we have an engine in the T-34 that looks like this one??

Well, we could, but Julie used all the gold plating when they redid her valve covers.

I took out the Spektrum receiver and put in a Futaba...HOWEVER...there I believe there should be a bind plug that binds the receiver to the radio. I'm not 100% sure of the process, but according to the manual, it should be in the manual for your Spektrum radio. Hope this helps.

Go to the following website:

http://www.spektrumrc.com/ProdInfo/F...nual-LoRes.pdf

This will download the DX6i manual. The binding process is on page 17.

I'm sorry it actually starts on page 18. It's really not as hard as it sounds, however, you have to follow the directions exactly.

Well I have flown mine and this plane flies great. it jumps off the ground in about 25 ft and just glides from there. I have not had any trouble with mine version and am in the process of making a few mods. I have working flaps and use the ailerons as flaperons for slowing this baby down. I am also going to try the 4s lipo set up and see what gives next time out. I put it in on the bench and it gives around 700watts at the expense of the 40amp esc. that was way over 45amps. the motor can only stand 32amps continuous. so I smell a power 32 coming. Trainer turned into sport plane. hahahahah

What about the wing droops? Are you using them?

I bought mine in August, but have not had much of a chance to fly it. About 4 - 6 weeks were tied up in moving. I've also had some battery issues that are resolved now. The last couple of weeks, it was super windy, so last Saturday everything fell into place to fly it. First flight went well, it seemed a little bit touchy on the ailerons, so when I landed it I adjusted the exponentials on my radio. I took it off again. My son-in-law was standing next to me. As I was bringing it in, I apparently was bringing it in too slowly and it stalled on the approach. I started to make adjustments...almost crashed it...adjusted again and I realized that the only way out was to go full throttle. As I gave it full throttle, the nose pointed up for a second and I thought I had saved it, but to my horror, the nose began to point down...I thought OH NO! THIS COULD BE BAD! However, SOMEHOW I was able to get the nose up one more time and get it back into the air. I started to hand the radio to my son-in-law at that point, but I thought...no way...I'm bringing this baby in. I brought it back around and had a very smooth landing. At that point I handed the radio to my son-in-law and said...You taxi it in, I'm done for the day!

He laughed and told me I did an awesome job of saving it...He said "I was watching and I thought. Oh, he crashed it. No he saved it. Oh, he crashed it. No he saved it. Oh, he crashed it. No, he saved it! Not sure how I pulled it out, but it's still in one piece. At one poing I know the wings were perpendicular to the ground and couldn't have been more than a foot off the ground.

I did the same with flaps. Still using the droops though. I guess once I get a few flights under my belt, I'll take them off.

Hey all,

I recieved my Mentor today. I have inspected it as best i can and all seems good. Unfortunately i have to wait till chrimbo to get it out and build.
I have a decent amount of experience on RTF foamies, so feel confident that i will be able to fly this beast and therefore do want to install flaps from the word go. Any suggestions as to a good servo for the job?

Thanks

Adam

I'm running a JR ST47 standard servo for the flaps. I ran mine with operational flaps the first time out and it performed very well. The plane flies the best with the flaps up obviously but they do help substantially during take off and landings. I'm running about 13mm of flap which is quite a bit, but I've also programmed in some down elevator to keep the nose from rising too much when the flaps are down.
