Having flown my TS many times, I really do not think that there is any need for flaperons. I fly on a grass field and my
TS tales off beautifully and lands with absolutely no problems whatsoever! With the Hangar 9 recommended set up,
I have plenty of power when neededand slowing down for a landing approach has never been an issue that I
thought would require flaperons. I hope that this helps you with your build andI would be interested in seeing any
photos of your build and Maiden flight. Videos, if possible, would also be appreciated.

Your setup soulds real good to me and don't hesitate to post some photos and video of your flights.
We all benefit from seeing how other Toledo Specials are built and flown.

I did use some of the control rod hardware that came with the Toledo, but I used Dubro metal clevises
for the alierons. When using the provided plastic clevis, you can see in the photo below that I put a small
piece of standard fuel tubing over the ends to prevent the clevis from opening. Just a little added protection.

I only got to fly it once before the weather turned. I did shoot video, but it turned out badly. The weather is just starting to get better; I hope to have the TS out with in a month. I am currently converting a H9 p-47 and that is eating all my hobby time. I thought the TS flow great, but I had the ailerons set wrong so way touchy.

I have a Saito 65 on my Toledo & flaperons are almost essential...it came in pretty hot without them.  I'm sure performance is different depending on whether you're using E-power or glow.

 Thanks for info on the flaperons.  I think I am going to try and using them. Were I fly it will help slow done the airplane.
I haven't had the chance to fly  my Toledo Special yet the glacier here has not melted.

The Cowboy knows what he is talking about! I forgot, since I fly 99% electric power, that glow & gas power
is a much different animal from electric. I would take his suggestion to use flaperons.

Hi Papa,

I do my TS a little different.....I found it to be very clean and not want to slow down to land........ Landing it a little fast wasn't a problem, it was getting to settle in and touch down.

It acts much like my warmliner .....so I use Spoileron on it, like the warmliner, and it lands just great........... No long glide, super stable( because your adding washout), and a deliberate, predictable desent.

I have two settings on my flap switch, 3/8" up aileron, for the approach, and 3/4" up for the final approach and touch down.....I flown many flights like this and prefer it to the flaperon set up, which seems to make it float.

For sure, your TS is definitely a little different from the stock setup that I have on my electric powered one.
Your Toledo has to be the best example of pure excellence that has ever been built! It is a real showpiece
and you fly it like the Master that you are! With your personal mods and your power system, your TSdoes
benefit from yourspoileron set up. (Am I prejudiced??????? You better believe it and just to substantiate
this fact, take a look at these photos of Paul's TS.)

NICE!!! I like the OZARK Air Lines sticker! It looks like you have more snow on the ground than we do.
Most of ours has melted, but it is still much too wet to start flying here. Please let us know when your
weather clears and you are about to Maiden your Toledo. Have someone take photos and mybe a video.

got a stupid question, I am trying to take out the wrinkles in this planes stabilizer and not coming out. looks like it is just adhering to the balsa, but the bubbles remain. Using a H9 Iron set to 5. Would I be better to use a heat gun?

I have found that my iron with a teflon foot has no problems getting the wrinkles to tighten. I do not use it with a
sock, but I don't know if you used a sock on yours. On some stubborn wrinkles, I do use an old hair blower on
MED setting and just take it easy and make sure that you move the blower back and forth over the wrinkle. I hope
this helps.

first flight of the year and only 2nd over all with this plane. This is a great flyer, with the lightning 50 and 5S plenty of power and lands like a dream. Allot of my club Mates were out today and really liked the look of it.

The only issue I have with this plane is the battery bay is a pain. I may try the cockpit idea you had later this season.

Back on post #109, Paul came up with the mod to make the battery tray in the cockpit and have access thru the
front "window." For me, I never had a problem with the battery hatch and compartment under the nose, but Paul's
mod is a neat way to do it.

I flew my Toledo Special early part of this week, and I couldn't be happier.  My four stroke OS FL70 ran excellent, and the airplane handeled the wind very well. The wind speed was about 10mph with gusts up to 15. I used the flaperons and that took some getting used to. Other than that I am very please with this airplane and engine. Hi PapaJeff,

I got a T.S. for free, mainly because the previous owner crashed it and didnt want to bother with the repairs. Upon inspecting the plane, I found the control surfaces seem to be stiff. The hinges are the C.A. types and the control surfaces seem to be glued too close to the fixed stabilizers. Was this the way the T.S. came or are the hinges glued in by the purchaser? Either way it doesnt matter as I think I will have to remove the surfaces and re-hinge them. I am just curious about this.

For what ever its worth the area below the front windshield seems to be the weakest point of the plane. This is where most of the damage happened when the plane was dorked by the previous owner. Hangar 9 offers pretty good after the crash support with parts. should you need them. The only problem I found was trying to find the same thickness plywood to make some of the repairs. The vendor for Hangar 9 seems to be using some odd stuff.

The CA type hinges are installed by the builder(not by the factory)and I did not have any problem with the rudder, elevator
or aileron surfaces as I have a habit of folding the CA hinges, and working them back and forth many times,before installing
them. It looks like you have a bit of a re-build on your hands and like Kivisto said, please keep us informed of your progress
by posting your repairs. I am sure that all of us will be interestedin your re-build.

Hi All,

Well I have been working on "Humpty-Dumpty" so to speak and have been slowly piecing all the small bit of ply back together. Luckily I was there when the crash happened. I helped previous owner gather up as many parts and bits of wood we could find thinking He was going to put it back together. As it turned out he was going to just trash it so I asked for the wreakage and now it's my problem.



I started by stripping back the covering to some solid wood and then slowly tack gluing the wood flakes back to the cabin. Like a jig-saw puzzle, I had to try and fit the small pieces of ply back together edge to jagged edge. I initially tacked glued because when putting something together like this, sometimes you realize you glued in something out of sequence and have to back track to fit a particular chunk of wood. When a piece is missing or totally creamed then it was time to make a piece that would fit into the puzzle.

The "plan" was to build up the cabin to a point where I could re-attach the fuselage to the nose section...
