Here are two photos.
Servos are Hitec HS-56HBs.
I am looking for a better solution for linkage and horn. If you have suggestions please let me know.

Thanks...

So far i have seen this been installed like that, I bought some gray paint to make it blend in. I also found this other forum, good ideas there.

http://www.rcgroups.com/forums/showt...1237390&page=7

also you can look on gliders to see if they do it different. hope this helps.

Also see page 4 on this forum they have pics on this subject.

For me further planning on the completion of the MQ-9 has a couple of daunting tasks. Number one: how to attach and manage the camera turret.
We have a hole in the fuse and an odd shapped turret dome that does not fit and there is no way to attach with parts from this kit.

Has anyone given any thought to how this problem might be addressed?

It would be neat if we could find a light-weight device that would attach 2 dissimilar objects. Think of how a lazy Susan works. (you can buy them at Home Depot) One side bolts to a support structure, in this case the fuse. And the other side would attach the turret. Somewhere in the interface would be a bearing surface. Hopefully, there is something out there in plastic-fiberglass or aluminum.

Any one have a resource?

You can look on YouTube just type MQ-9 on the search bar and you can get an Idea on how it flies.

Hello,
I've been keeping my eye on this thread for a while now.
Can anyone list any wattage specs, on what you are all running and performance?
How many watts ?
My Kit is out and inventoried but i have not made any choices yet on power and servos.
Thanks,
john

I'm almost done with my move, so I'll finish up with the Reaper soon. I'll try to post some numbers on what I'm pulling with my setup tonight.

I actually just ran across this thread yesterday, if anyone is interested, this is the first in the series of building and moding the ProJet 98" MQ-9 Reaper.
I didn't get a chance to run the watts last night on my power 46 setup. I'll get the numbers today. Also I'm waiting on a trailing link nose gear from TamJets to replace the stock setup. This should be alittle more forgiving on my GoPro Hero I'm mounting(see vids)

Thanks and let me know if I can answer any questions.

Sorry, meant to post that. I'll run it today and post. I want to say that it was pulling 36 at full throttle, but I'll check the watts and rpm later

Kentek,

I use the Futaba 10c 2.4 system for the tx. I used most of the supplied hardware except for linkages from servos to horns. I also chose to change out the hinges although the supplied ones are probably fine for the way this bird will fly.

Hope this helps!

Default RE: NitroPlanes - MQ-9 REAPER

Hi all
Im almost done building my MQ 9 Reaper but I have a problem with the weight and balance The Reaper is nose heavy because the camera system, battery and esc is in the front. The mq 9 is a little over 8 Lbs. When I take the battery out it's tail heavy. I was looking for the flat weights that I could place in the rear to balance it out. does anyone have a projet reaper weighing in a 8 pounds or more. I dont want to cause it be grossly over weight and snap the wings. every things standard except I added a camera system that has a battery and TX in the tail section, and a micro servo in the front for the nose wheel. Also there is a full pan and tilt pod using the old dome with the snout cut and modified. I just saw the final mount that Dmenace65 made for his mq 9. Its pretty cool I had a similar idea, but his looks more solid.

Let me know if yall help with any ideas.

Default RE: NitroPlanes - MQ-9 REAPER

Guys,

Recently completed 5 successful test flights on my MQ-9. 6th flight wasn't very pretty.....
Full up wt was 4.5 lbs. Static thrust was 4.25lbs. Flew off grass, but needed all of the power to get enough airspeed for rotation.

Some of you may not be aware that the wing loading is closer to a fighter plane model than a sport model. It is certainly not a glider. The only fault I found with this model is with the wing. It is not strong enough to support the aircraft properly in flight without additional reinforcement to keep it from bending. A little more chord width in the wing to get the loading down from 25oz/sq ft to 20oz/sq ft AND more strength, would work wonders. (Sport Plane loading).
My wing assumed a curved shape with about 3/4 inch of upward deflection which did not go away after landing.... This also led to a slight twist which resulted in wash-in (BAD).. Wash-Out is desireable and is used to prevent unwanted tip-stall. Wash-In can be distasterous!
The model apparently tip-stalled in a turn and crashed due to this condition. Speed was not an issue. The wing is so long and thin that the twisting wasn't noticeable in flight and since it slightly drooped when on the ground, I missed it after initial post flight checking.
If it stays curved 3/4 inch (from straight) after a flight, what must it be doing in-flight?
I suggest removing the bottom covering from the wing panels and adding a strip of carbon fiber to keep the wing from bending in flight.

The fuselage took a direct hit to nose upon crashing, but only the first 8-10 inches were ruined. Haven't been able to find any replace parts for it besides buying another kit.... Not a bad flyer, but wings are too much like the full scale version, but without the necessary strength.
Flying with more than 5lb gross weight could prove to be hazardous.

Do Your Homework!
Happy Landings.

A build question. My kit came with 1 - 6mm carbon fiber rod for the wing spar. The elevators each need a 6mm x 80mm rod, am I missing these 2 rods or do I just cut it from the large wing rod. Right now that rod extends about 9 1/2" into the wing if I take the elevator rods off there will only be about 6" into the wing.

Any advice guys?

Dave
