Default Eflite electric retract

Thew new Hangar 9 P-47D-1 Thudenrbolt 60 ARFcalls for a 60-120 85 degree strut-ready electric retract. I have a 60-120 90 degree strut-ready retract that i was thinking about using. Is it ok to use the 90 degree or do i have to use the 85 degree? What would be the impact for using a 90 degree instead of 85 degree. Thanks in advance for all help!!!

Default RE: Eflite electric retract

With the 90deg gear down, the struts will not be perpendicular to the ground. They will be perpendicular to the dihedral wing, so they will be 'pointing out' a little bit. While it is 'mostly' aesthetic, when you land you will now be putting a sideways force on the struts.

Think about jumping off a fence and landing with your feet shoulder width apart. Then think about doing the same with your feet spread out two feet further. You legs would be much happier if your feet were under you.

5 degrees is not a ton, but it's substantial especially with things like grass runways.

If you like the building aspect of the hobby a lot, you can try to 'bury' the wheels further in the wings, so when the gear extends it comes down perpendicular to the ground. However there may not be enough room or structural members might be in way.
