Default Trojan nose gear issue

Hi
My durafly Trojan crash landed and I'm installing a new front gear and its servo. Radio is a turnigy9x.I have 2 issues
1) I just can't slip that c shaped clip thing to secure the gear rod. .... since the servo has a tiny opening. How do I do it?
2) that collar that slide up down the gear rod. .....With that and the similar one holding the wheel directional servo, the gear servo heats up since it can't fully come up since both the collars obstruct the gear coming flat to gear servo. I can even Smell the coil burning I guess. So what do I do in this case? See pics.

Can I control how far retract servo can push the trunnion?

.Thanks for helping this experienced beginner lol.
