I didn't use the stock landing gear because the planes would not take off with the bottom of the fuse dragging in the grass. Unless the grass is very short the fuse almost holds the wheels off the ground. I made more conventional landing gear and flew them with it until I sold them.
I am torn between the two motors and would like more opinions from the two provided here. Which would provide a smoother flight? The Rimfire with a 7" prop or 9" prop?, or the Hobbyking with a 9" prop?

Looks as though the Rimfire 28-30-1450 Outrunner Brushless is discontinued (bummer, was a perfect match) so looks like I will have to go with the Hobbyking.

I thank you all for your help and advice. I have ordered the Turnigy Park 480. Now I need a 30amp ESC and 2000+ battery pack or two.
If anyone is interested I think I may want to do a build thread when I begin. To my knowledge there is no threads on the 'Real Thing'

I wanted the Turnigy Park480 850 KV motor but the one they shipped was a Turnigy Park480 1020kv.
Lowest recommended prop for this motor is 10x7, which building the kit according to plans would be too big. Would need a great deal of mods to the landing gear.
That is doable, but wouldn't a 10x7 prop look ridiculous on a plane of this design? horton, what size prop is on your plane pictured?

My Feedback: (26)
I'm not sure of the prop sizes I used on my Real Things as it was 21 years ago when I built them and I sold them a long time ago. I think the 2-cycle had a 8" prop and the 4-cycle had a 9" or 10" prop. But I had made landing gear that raised the front of the plane up about 3" from the stock configuration. I still have the 4-cycle engine on another plane and it has a 10" prop on it.
