Nope. No correlation between kV and flight time.

Could you recommend commercial landing gear that would serve the purpose? I want the traditional wire gear. Please include a link..
I am torn between the two motors and would like more opinions from the two provided here. Which would provide a smoother flight? The Rimfire with a 7" prop or 9" prop?, or the Hobbyking with a 9" prop?

I bought music wire and bent my own landing gear. I don't know where you could buy wire gear that would work on it. And I don't know much about electrics but I think the larger prop would be better.

Looks as though the Rimfire 28-30-1450 Outrunner Brushless is discontinued (bummer, was a perfect match) so looks like I will have to go with the Hobbyking.

28-30-950 will work with an 8X6 prop if you can make that work.

I thank you all for your help and advice. I have ordered the Turnigy Park 480. Now I need a 30amp ESC and 2000+ battery pack or two.

If anyone is interested I think I may want to do a build thread when I begin. To my knowledge there is no threads on the 'Real Thing'

I wanted the Turnigy Park480 850 KV motor but the one they shipped was a Turnigy Park480 1020kv.
Lowest recommended prop for this motor is 10x7, which building the kit according to plans would be too big. Would need a great deal of mods to the landing gear.

That is doable, but wouldn't a 10x7 prop look ridiculous on a plane of this design? horton, what size prop is on your plane pictured?

I'm not sure of the prop sizes I used on my Real Things as it was 21 years ago when I built them and I sold them a long time ago. I think the 2-cycle had a 8" prop and the 4-cycle had a 9" or 10" prop. But I had made landing gear that raised the front of the plane up about 3" from the stock configuration. I still have the 4-cycle engine on another plane and it has a 10" prop on it.
