The Brits use the brown paper soaked in diluted white or yellow glue for covering the foam. [X(]

that is correct. the models are mainly for combat it is veary strong but light and if it does hit the deck it can be fixed easily with 5 min epoxy.

Luke,
Here in the US, combat planes are usually covered with either Rip Stop Nylon applied with Water Based Polyurethane or various types of fiber reinforced tapes.

The paper & glue planes just explode in midairs against wings covered with RSN or tape. Both the RSN and tape methods are lighter as well.

Check out the combat forum for more tips.

i dont know about that i took out my dad and they seemed ok and my fellow squad man had a head on collision taking off his OS15 head but little damage was done to the plane just some 5 min epoxy and we shall all be flying again. the blue foam makes a clean break and once the brown paper has dried it is as hard as nails so to speak. it has a coat of 50-50 pva waterboth top and bottom of paper. if you look on the air combat uk web site that is the norm. go on try it. "try it is to love it!"

Been there, done that: it won't stand up to today's standards here.

Check out http://www.rccombat.com/rcca.asp for the way we do things here.

English "Blue Foam" is basically the same stuff as pink and blue foams available in the US and tan available in most of continental Europe.

The ultimate in impact absorbtion/disipation can be found on all of the JK Aerotech combat designs:
http://www.jkaerotech.com

In a nutshell; 2mm Coroplast ("Correx" in England) wrapped pink foam fuselages, sparred (usually two 1/8" fiberglass rods tip to tip) pink foam wings with fiberglass tape rinforcements. The norm is also to use 4mm Coroplast for the tail feathers.

The big bonus is that we can (and almost always do) use up to .26 engines.

This discussion really belongs in the Combat forum...

Not all of us do, I find it too damn heavy and not very tough. I did some tests with Poly-c (Minwax) and 0.6oz cloth, came out much lighter, and far tougher than brown paper. My results are in this thread (MainlyModels ME-109)
