Default Is there any Balsa 'Warbird' kits for Electric Available?

Since I'm having so much fun building my Dandy Sport I'd thought I'd ask about this. Thanks

Here are some photos of mine. I like to make .40 sized warbirds so I just build from a glo kit or from plans and fly it electric. Some altereations are necessary but not too much. I use Maxcim motors and Jeti motors too. These are brushless motors and are not cheap. But to fly these warplanes that is what it takes. There are smaller planes too that will work with cheaper motors but these old eyes have trouble seeing planes under 60" wingspan. The P-51 is from a Herr kit and is small enough to power with a smaller cheaper motor.

Also, there's Pica, and Ryan, and the old Ace Simple series.

Good luck,

If you ever had heard of the Fly RC magazine, There has been 2 balsa plans since their first issue in october. In the october issue there is a spitfire plan, and in the december there is a L-19 Bird Dog plan. You might be able to find these at book stores and only buy the one issue you want.

Look at "Quiet & Electric Flight International" - three free plans for balsa fighter aircraft for speed 400 within the last year. January 2003 "Hawker Hurricane"; March 2003 "Supermarine Spitfire Mk IX"; May 2003 "MesserschmittBf109e" [plus a plan feature on the twin engine "de Havilland Sea Hornet"]. Their Plans Service has dozens of warbird designs.

Who needs a kit - go for it!

Cheers, Phil

Sorry - hit the send button before I was finished.

Check out www.newcreations-rc.com:

Kirk Massey has listings for many, many warbird kits - Six PICA Laser cut kits for example, K&A Models has Focke-wulf 190, P51D, Spitfire and ME 109 (Graupner has one of those too). He stocks the Ace R/C Simple series too [ME 109, P-51, F-4U Corsair].

Thanks guys for the information I wasn't getting anywhere looking myself. I didn't know I could use .40 glow planes with brushless with little modifcations but that sounds great. I was thinking of going brushless once the flying skills get a tad better. Also the 'Pica' kits sound nice, but there is not much information on their website 'http://www.newcreations-rc.com' so i'll check around for some info. Thanks a bunch.

Thanks for the info and links guys... I bought the P51.... http://www2.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin...?&I=LXGAL0&P=7 , we'll see how it goes. I'll be looking for a spitfire around this size also, but this should hold me for awhile.

Hey Dawg.
That p-51 kit looks good! Here's a link to a thread on the E-zone where it's being built and discussed if your interested:

Let us know how it goes. Later,
Tailspin

Thanks tailspin, I really appreciate the help. Pretty informative thread. Once I start I'll take some pics and stuff. I asked on the thread about which motor I should go with because I don't want to have to upgrade it later. We'll see. All I need is to cover the main wing for the Dandy Sport then I get on the P51. Thanks

Darren

Perhaps a better source of info for the Pica kits is the Pica site: www.picaweb.com

Click on the link to the left for the 1/12 Electrics. I'm still waiting for the Corsair to be released. In the meantime, I'm building the Ziroli electric P-51 from plans offered by Model Airplane News (August 2003).

I like Jim Ryan's series of electric warbirds. I've built the Bearcat and P-47
http://www.geocities.com/jbrundt/P-47.html

http://www.geocities.com/jbrundt/bearcat.html

and will probably get his Corsair as well. They fly great on a stock 6V S400. A flying buddy has the Hellcat with a brushless setup and it rocks. The new Wildcat looks to be nice as well. If you build them light they will not let you down in the performance area. His designs are top notch and fit together perfectly. I've never had a balsa kit go together as well as Jim's birds.

Check his web site out http://home.fuse.net/ryan/

Jeff
