The slow stick I got a few months ago came with GWS 1180 (11x8) Slow Flyer propellers. 10x8 seem to work ok too, 1147 seem a little slow (can't make much headway in a slight wind kinda slow). Just my experience.

Try a 12x6! Works well.

Trogdor,

How many volts were you running your SS on with the 1147 prop?

I'm using a 1260 with 8.4 volts and wanted to experiment with the 1147 prop, but if you already tried that and didn't like it, I'll forgo that experiment.

Well, its been awhile since I've flown the stick now (Formosa and HD3D getting all my attention now! but I used 2 cell lipolys (1500 kokam) and some rather weak 8 cell nimhs 650 and 800 (bad voltage drop after 5 amp draw or so... didn't really notice til I tried them on a faster plane (formosa)). Anyway, Stick always flew fine and maybe I flew in too much wind (10ish mph) for the low pitch props. Anyway, lots of thrust but could only manage a few mph in wind... Still fun could almost hover and with maxed out throws could do some fun loopy things...

I have noticed on a few other GWS 300/350 motors that overproping for 10 or 11 amps static (maybe 9 cant remember) seems to wear the motors out quick... of my 3 or 4 motors most are noticeably weaker after a couple dozen flights or so...
the SS has a 300 motor still I think so maybe that 12x6 is still recommended but just be careful if you want motor longevity...

Thanks,

One of the reasons I was thinking about going to the 1147 was because it apparently pulls fewer amps.

I'll get one and see what happens. It's been a bit windy here lately and I'm discovering that the SS is not that fun to fly in the wind anyway. Much of the time I'm flying upwind and at these times, it's like flying a kite.

Motivation to put the covering on my GP BLT and see if that fairs better! If not, the Herr Mini-Sport I have on order should do the trick.

Yes, a 11x4.7 pulls less amps.

However, I believe it won't be as good as a 11x8 in wind.

Yes, but because of the "Kite Factor" I will likely keep the SS on the shelf when it's windy and take one of my (future) others out for a spin.

I like the 12 x 8 I can really pull it around in any wind! I have tried the 12 x6 and the 11 x 4.7 I did not like the plane with those props. I love this plane! It gets flown at least 3 times a week! I am on my second kit and I have burn up both motors so I bought the GWS 350 and while I haven't really noticed an increase in power I have noticed that I am pulling too many AMP's all of my batteries couldn't keep up. So I bought a bigger battery ETEC 2S2P 2400 mAh Li-Po.

Pulling too many AMPS also means you're destroying the motor quicker!!!

A 12x8, I've tried it. It really is GOOD! However, it's draws a lot of amps. Watch out!!!

I'm sure the 12x8 will work nicely with a Lipo. Try not to use it with a 7 cell or 8 cell NiCD/MH though.

Just a piece of advice. You do what you want.

You know what if I had to fly my SS around using a 11x4.7 and a 6 cell 650 mAh battery I would have thrown it away a long time ago. I agree you will burn up you motors, but I fly this thing ALL the time I probably had 25 hours on the first motor and 10 hours on the second one. I am about 4 hours into this GWS 350 motor. I have been flying the SS for about a year now and I think it is a great plain.

Baaaaaaah 11x4.7 doesn't fly. 12x6 does. Wheeeeeeeee

Sure the SS is a great plane. I have been flying it for a few months. I find it a bit boring now... just how can I make it acrobatic?!?!

Get a second plane, a Formosa for 45 bucks and then try knife edges across the field with the stock motor! Everyone loves their SS but you're really limiting yourself if you dont try something new. Just a general opinion...
