Default Building a new plane...

Hello all,

I've recently begun a plane of my own design but need all electronics...Here's what I've come up with:

This would run a 370 motor on a 4:1 gear with a 9X4.7 prop.

First of all...is this a good setup...

Second of all...could I get this same stuff (or it's equivalent) for cheaper anywhere else???

I noticed you are running a 3s li-po on a 370 motor. 11.1 volts is pretty high for a brushed motor. I would be concerned about burning it up. Also, if you are going to ever build other planes you might want to get a JR XF631 radio system or a JR XP6102 radio system. More expensive, but they are both computer radios, have six channels, and have memories for more than one model.

Changed that...

Now I've got:

Same radio system as above with an extra servo

pico-20 ESC

2 cell 1200 mah lipo

8X6 prop

370 motor geared 4:1

How's that sound??

Looks good. You could probably still get away with some more prop with that gearbox you are running. The battery will give you some pretty long flight times. Probably in the 15 minute range at full throttle and if you stay off the throttle you could probably extend it to 30 minutes.

Yeah...I got two different props...1 9X7 and one 10X8 so I'll see what happens with that.

Download Motocalc from their web site http://www.motocalc.com Use the 30 day trial, you can compute all the variables you are asking about with it. After your 30 days, if you want to keep it, it's $35.

I've already used motocalc...but it doesn't help if I don't understand the theory behind it. What a gearbox does, what a prop pitch and and length means, that sort of stuff...however, now that I understand that stuff...motocalc is great.
