Default Recipe to fry battery pack

As I was running short of polarized connectors (I usually use deans) I decided to improvise. I had a few male/female pins of some old connectors and decided to solder them on my Jeti speed controller and battery pack. To prevent incorrect connection between the battery pack and the speed controller, I took the precaution of soldering a male pin to the battery positive and a female to the negative, I thereafter soldered the opposite gender pins on the speed controller. I kept putting off the work on changing the connector - plain laziness. Many successful days of flying went by till today.

In a hurry to get airborne (today was a beautiful morning) I accidentally connected the battery positive to the negative. The jumble of wires in the fuselage only added to the confusion. Within less than a minute I heard a cracking and sizzling sound – yes the battery pack was fried and on the verge of setting fire to the aircraft fuselage. I burnt my fingers taking the pack out and I guess the photos tell the rest.

Lesson learned
1. Always use polarized connectors
2. Don’t take short cuts - no matter how careful you are you will surely make a mistake sometime.

Yes I feel really stupid

Default RE: Recipe to fry battery pack

I think that was a good lesson for $20 and some burnt fingers. Thanks.
