Jumping Jack 3d motor choice?????
Hello, I am looking into the Jumping Jack at esprit model, looks like an amazing performing small 3d plane. Their website reccomends the Hacker b20 15L with gearbox, but i was wondering if i could use an axi instead (i have the small axi on my shocky and its awesome), but cannot decide on which model. I would like at least 40 oz of thrust (2:1), also i live at 5500' AGL, so the extra power will definitely be needed for 3d here. So far the 2808 looks good to me, but i dont know much about the rest of the axi lineup. Any help would be appreciated.

I am going through the same problem. I heard the 1020/15 Lehner is the ultimate, but I don't like the GWS gearboxes they recommend. I love the planetary gearboxes and I heard that the hackers are the only ones that last.??? I am in SLC by the mouintains around 5000 feet as well. What gearbox can you put on the AXI'S?

Axi's dont need gearboxes, they are very efficent outrunners, that's why i was wondering if anyone has used one succesfully. I think the 2808-24 would fit in nicely though- hobby lobby's web page claims 37 oz of thrust, which should definitely suffice IMO.

RE: Jumping Jack 3d motor choice?????
ill second the Lehner 1020 Awesome power, and nothing gets too hot. I have the 1020/17 in a GWS eps400 gearbox, much more robust gearbox than the 300 series. it spins a 13x6.5 apcE at 6500 rpm, 22 amps on an Irate 3S 2200 pack, 3 lbs of thrust up to 23 minutes flight time, 3 lbs of thrust on a 19 ounce plane is insane, i would estimate 30 mph straight up, maybe faster. I have enough power that i can set the plane on the runway, give it a burst of WOT, chop the throttle and pull up about 15 feet, without the power on<~~crowd pleaser for sure.
i have about 150 flights on the original gearbox and gears, and they dont show signs of wear, hardest part is drilling the pinion gear out for the lehners 1/8 inch shaft, which isnt really that hard anyway, be sure to use green loctite, and have the correct gear lash.
you could get 3 lbs of thrust out of a hacker B20L, but not with the maxon gearbox, and not without demagging the motor from the heat. The Lehner 1020 series motor fill a gap between the Hacker B20 and B40 models~perfect for this size of airplane(40" 19-25 oz)
Also, the 1020 weighs 2 ounces i think the hacker weighs about the same, but handles 100 less watts of power.

FYI, the Jumping Jack is NOT a 3D airplane. It's a mini-pattern plane. AUW should be 20 oz and a B20-15L is perfect for this plane. Be sure and do some research into the needed mods to keep it from breaking up in flight.

RE: Jumping Jack 3d motor choice?????
i had tried an axi 2808/20 with a 10x47 prop but the amp draw goes pass25 amps using
kokam 2000 (8c) would makd the battery and the motor unsuitable.
hence i switched to a 2814/12 with throttlemanagement using 10x38 prop and 2s 2p 2000 kokam.
the power is amazing, obviousoverpowered and plane weights abt 30 oz.
thestock recommendation is impractical.
