Transporting
Hi everyone, I think I have asked this somewhere before, but I don't think it was in this forum, but here anyway,
I have a GWS Tiger Moth. When I fly I get driven down to the local park, and my car is fairly small, so there isn't really anywhere to lie it down, and even if I could, I would be worried that it would roll into something or bounce around, and with a plane as fragile as that it could break easily. My only solution is to hold it in mid air the whole way by the tail cone. This is uncomfortable and difficult, and soon I will be doing the driving so it will become impossible.
I was just wondering how other people that drive get their planes down to the park. It would need to be an easy solution without much construction (as I don't have the resources) and keep in mind there isn't really any space to lie it down.
Thanks, Alex

RE: Transporting
I like the idea of the tail hook but the Tiger Moth tail is made out of foam 2 or 3mm thick, so I wouldn't put any weight on it.
How would I stop if from swinging around if it was tied up?
Thanks anyway, anymore ideas are more than welcome.

Is it possible to stand the plane on it's nose(prop)(i.e.on a seat or floor)? And just use the clothes hook to keep it from falling over(flat)? That's the only other way I can think of at the moment for holding it if you don't want to physical hang it by the tail. You could try Building tip #3 at this [link=http://sdparkflyers.com/tigertips.html]site[/link]. It talks about making the wing into a quick disconnect for maintenance & transporting.
Hope That Helps

I put mine in the trunk with a box under each wing. You can make a cradle for it out of a cardboard box. Cutout "U" shapes for the fuselage. If you make them too deep, you will have to make cuts for the wings as well.

You could also do something along the same line as the "tip 3." You can still put the dowels into the plane, but instead of the rubber bands, you can drill a small hole through each dowel and place a clip into it like how they attatch RC car bodies.
But as for transporting your plane, you should have enough room in your car for the plane. Suspending it from the cieling works wonders. To keep it from swinging, you just have to correctly position the four strings that hold the plane. This will keep it from shaking. The rest of the plane can sit in the back seat under the plane. There should be enough room in your car for a park flyer.

RE: Transporting
Thanks for all you advice, I'm starting to get some ideas brewing in my head now.... Probably a cradle made from foam, or cardboard. But it is quite a small car and there really isnt any space to lie it flat. When i have some spare time, I'll go out to my car and investigate. Once again, thanks for the ideas.
