Charger Questions.... please help
Im looking for a charger that will charge nicd and ni-mh batteries of little to many cells fast and easy. I found this one GWS MC2002 Battery Charger, and might get it. But I would like a charger that is ac/dc so i can use it inside and in my car. My 900mah batteries take 4 hours to charge with the stock charger i got now, and thats way to long. Thats for 1 battery! But.. is that charger good? I was a peak charger so i dont have to worry about waiting around for it to finish charging, and so i can charge my batteries while at the field flying, then land and switch them and keep going.

RE: Charger Questions.... please help
actually Im looking at the Hitec CG-340 charger from servocity.com. Its not that expensive and seems to charge alot of different sizes and whatnot. But, I dont know what type of connectors it uses for the batteries, so would it be a good idea to buy 2 sets of Tamiya Connectors also, and then use 2 females or w/e for my batteries, and then one male for the airplane plug in, and one for the charger? Just my and soder, or w/e the wires with the new plugs?

A friend of mine has this charger. It works great. It comes with small alligator clips on the output side and larger ones on the input side to connect to your 12V batt. We cut off the larger clips and connected a normal plug that you can put in your accessory port in your car. Go to this page and scroll down, you can see the clips it comes with.

You will probably want different connectors on the output side too. So that you can plug directly into your battery. Thats the same price my friend got his for at www.balsapr.com. I haven't seen it cheaper yet. Hope this helps.

Sounds good. The Triton is a very good charger too. DC only though. You need a power supply to charge at home. I use an old computer power supply. They can usually be found cheap.

Can I use a old psu for that Hitec charger? I got an extra one in my other pc thats not up and running now. Otherwise, maybe I can just haul around our boat battery, lol. yeah, I ordered 3 sets of tamiya connectors so then I can hook up all my stuff. But, then... if i cut off the clips and add a car jack plug, then how can i add a psu to power it to?

Um.. i thimk my charger is broken.. it dont charge.. even with a DC charger for a car, at 12v 6 amps. How can i check to see if my charger is shorted or not? We used volt meter but the charger didnt put out anything unless we attached a battery to it so?

I charged the battery again with a car battery, the light still didnt go out saying its charged, but this time when i took it off the charger, the battery was semi charged. So.. I dont know if it is charging actually, or just like half azzed charged it.

Then I don't think it charged, or didn't charge completely.
If it was on a very slow trickle charge rate, it wouldn't get warm, but a fast charge should make it warm when it's done.
Can you measure the voltage of the battery with a volt meter? Fully charged it should read about 1 volt above it's rating, i.e. a 7 cell pack should read about 9.4 volts, even though the pack is an 8.4 volt pack (1.2x7=8.4). When run down it may read around 7 volts or a little more.
You could run the pack down then charge it and check the pack voltage and this way know if it charged it.

Ok, thanks alot, i will try that. Yea, because I charged it at 1.5 amps for about 40 min or so, on NIMH mode, and it didnt feel warm, or say it was done charging. SO, 2morrow morning im going to charge it again with the charger, but on NICD mode at 2 amps and see if it says its done.

RE: Charger Questions.... please help
I just opened the charger just to see if i could see anything wierd or burnt *shhhh dont tell Hitec*. I didnt see anything wrong, except this white little box shape thing, it looks like brown on the wire on one side, and the box looked kinda melted or deformed compared to the other one attached to the circuit board. So.. idk if thats messed up, or.. what. Maybe I could just buy that part at radio shack and fix it myself and save some money?

Sure if you think that's all that's bad and you know what part to get.
Sorry, I don't know what the white little box shaped thing is.

RE: Charger Questions.... please help
Lol... i dont know what it is either. I just thought it might be burnt out, but idk. I tested the batteries with our meter we have on Ohms. The batteries read like inifinity/ way over, and when i tested the charger, not plugged in, it read 0. SO idk if thats a good thing or bad. Im charging witha different battery right now on the car battery, so i will see if that works or not. Last night i tried charging with the car battery with my other battery, and it charged it partially, but itonly lasted for 5 min. of flight this morning. Hitec didnt email me yet, but I thikn there just opening soon. Is there any other way to check if the chargers broken? I might take it in to Radio shack and see if they know whats wrong, or the hobby store.

RE: Charger Questions.... please help
I can check my chargers with my inline volt meter, an AstroFlight Whattmeter.
I can put the meter between the charger and battery as see the charge rate and the amount of charge it puts in.
Maybe a hobby shope has one and can do the same.
