krylon short cuts paint..for painting foam...
Ive read so many recomenedations on this paint for painting foam..I just bought 2 cans of it to paint my foam sky-scotoer pro2...and it seems pretty crappy to me..it softens the foam and doesnt stick well at all..if I rub my fingers or touch the plane.the paint rubs off easily.and I sprayed it on very lightly from a distance of 8-12"...lot of good info on these forums..along with some bad..lol... I ll have to rey another paint..luckily I just did the undersied of the wing as a test first

very strange...its almost like the paint doesnt want to stick to the foam..and powders up so that when you touch it..it comes right off...ironically..on the back of the can..it say it is for hobbies and FOAM...lol...

I've never had any problems with it...
did you shake the can real well?
i doubt that'd cause any problems...
but you shouldn't be having any to begin with...

yes..shook the can for 2 minutes..and even made sure the can was around 70 degrees in temp...also bought an attachable plastic sprayer that goes on the can itself..allowing one to paint like an airbrush...it jsut seems like the paint powdered up..and if you rub it..comes right off...its orange krylon short cuts..

maybe the foam on the sky-scooter pro2 is different then other planes..I just went to check it again..and the paint is dry..as soon as I pick the plane up..the paint rubs right off like a dry powder..oh well...Ill give testors spray paint a try..

no...I figured the spray adapter had nothing t do with it really...all that does is allow a person to hold the can like it were a spray paint gun..with a handle..doesnt do nothing to the actuall way the paint comes out of the paint can nozzle...

Rumme,
I saw that you were having some bad luck with the ‘Short Cuts’ paint. I’ve used it before and it worked pretty well. I don’t think many paints like to stick well to foam, EPS. I have also tried the Tamaya, Sp?, for plastic, sold at the LHS. These work a bit better, but are $5.99 for a can the size of the short cuts! The color of short cuts paint I’ve used is black and yellow. Maybe the pigment in the color you were trying to use was a problem. You also need to be careful not to let the paint go on to thick. The carrier in the paint will melt the foam. If you put it on in thin coats, the carrier will evaporate before it gets a chance to attack the foam. This doesn’t sound like the problem in your case, but you did say that it made the foam soft. The colors I’ve used do not just wipe off as you have explained. Good luck and if you find something let us all know.
Rick
