Default HELP!!!!Hitec/Funtec Sky Scooter w/Motor ARF 32-11/16"

Just purchased a Hitec/Funtec Sky Scooter w/Motor ARF 32-11/16" on Monday at LHS. Paid $198.00 + tax. Checked Tower Hobbies for some reason after I bought (Stupid Move). This came complete with radio, installed servos. All I had to do was charge the battery pack for thirty minutes. As the LHS are you sure this is all I need? Wanted to fly right away. Got home and....sure enough needed eight double AA batteries. Does not say this on the box. Man does this Pi@@ you off or what. I bought this so I can fly it in a smaller area where I live.

Having said all that here is my real question. On the box it states at least 8 minutes flying time. I barely get three minutes out of it. I am charging it correctly because it comes with a thirty minute timer on the charger. I am also onlu using full power to take off. By the time I get it up in the air its time to bring it back down. Is this really worth two hundred bucks? Does anyone have one of these planes? Any comments or suggestions are welcome.

Default HELP!!!!Hitec/Funtec Sky Scooter w/Motor ARF 32-11/16"

I do hot have one of these but all of my planes are electric (all 18 of them).

The batteries NiCds need to be cycled several (10) times before they reach maximum storage.

Don't sweat the flight time yet. Get another battery and swap them out. Make sure they are cool before you re-charge.

Also if you plan to fly a lot get a good quality peak detection charger (like the diamond super turbo). The batteries you save will be your own.

Default Scooter

I have a scooter and they are o.k. They train well for "real" flying with Ailerons instead of that dihedral rudder crap.

The battery that came with it is probably the little wimpy 300 mah nicad. The pro ships with a 600 mah (yes twice the duration). But if you did get the pro you probably got the bigger battery but you also have the faster but less efficient direct drive motor.

Get a gear box if you have the pro : http://www.servocity.com/Products/Sk..._upgrades.html
Plus a 10x7 slow prop.

Get an extra 600 mah battery or upgrade to the 1100 mah (I don't have one of these so no guarantees how it will perform or fit).

And the MRC Brain charger ($60). A smart peak charger makes a lot of difference.

I would also recommend getting some NIMH AAs for your transmitter. You get more duration out of them than alkalines as well as better economics.

With a well charged 600 mah bettery the 10x7 prop and the 3-1 gear drive you should easily get 8-10 minutes of fly time. I average right around 8 with a 9x6 prop. The 10x7 should net you even more. I am guessing the 1100 mah will get you more like 15 minutes.

Definitely get your gear from Servo City. Free shipping and great prices on Scooter gear.

Don't feel bad about the pricing from LHS. That is the price we all pay to walk in and out with something under our arms.

Good luck.

Default HELP!!!!Hitec/Funtec Sky Scooter w/Motor ARF 32-11/16"

I have the Pro 2 with the 600mah battery. It flies great. I can gain lots of altitude dive down and do loops, rolls, ect. I have the 3:1 gear box, lots of power, almost pulls out of your hand. I didnt have 8 AA's but I had a hitec prism 7 radio and the battery were able to fit in it. I love to fly mine around the yard evey day if I get the chance and the weather lets me.

Default HELP!!!!Hitec/Funtec Sky Scooter w/Motor ARF 32-11/16"

I have an older skyscooter that came with a 300 mil pack 7cells. I installed a 600 mil 8 cell pak and have decent climb and about 3 minutes flight time so I would recommend the 1100 mil 8 cell for more power and duration.

Default HELP!!!!Hitec/Funtec Sky Scooter w/Motor ARF 32-11/16"

The charger that comes with the Sky Scooter doesn't fully charge the batteries in 30 minutes. You really ought to get a peak detect charger like the Hitec CG340 ($40) to charge your batteries.

If you didn't get the "Pro 2" version of the Sky Scooter, I highly recommend that you invest in the gearbox and folding propeller option at http://www.servocity.com.

Default scy pooper

Go on to servo city cuz they do upgrade aftermarket customising. You could get a 1200 ma batt with a speed desinged gearbox. You can try extending the ailerons w/ more foam. and ajusting the throw on them. cut of the windshield, and make a spood dip shape in it. Get bigger servos like futaba 3004's. By the way you can even cut of the nose and put a big motor on it just make sure its balanced correctly. There are a lot of things to make a sky pooper better. My sky pooper now has is pretty much fully areobatic with 15 min flight depending on the areobatics.
