Default antenna length

I am about to install a Dumas hardwire antenna. I did this once before and cut off the length of the RX wire by the length of the hard wire. It worked alright on a small boat on a small pond. Should the length of the RX antenna be cut off by the length of the hard wire or just attached to it ?

The overall length of the RX antenna should be the same after you are done attaching the hardwire portion as it was with just the flexible antenna. This assumes the hardwire portion is not coiled or base loaded.

Thanks DannyR. That's what I did on my little Windy and it worked fine but I never went to the other side of the pond and was concerned about the range. Now I feel better and will do the same thing. Thanks again.
