Default Hacker a30-12m

I have a new Hacker a30-12m. I just got everything installed and ready for a test with a 11-5.5 APC prop pluged it in and my Phoenix 35 cuts out when it hits about 30 amps. I have tried everything from a 9-5 prop to a 14-5 prop and the watt meter reads 30 amps with each and the speed control cuts out. I am running a Apogee 2480 3 cell. Anyone know why it's pulling so many amps? THANKS !

30 amps sounds about right for WOT IIRC......

what "C" is your battery rated for?

Don't forget to check the voltage cutoff setting of the speed controller, and setup for your battery cutoff level. I've got the same setup as you, but also come to think of it, that battery should not push beyond 26 amp... Is the battery getting hot?

I havn't ran it long enough to let it get hot. I have since tried a 7x4 prop and now am only drawing 24 amps.

I was going to say that when you are pulling too many amps you have to either put a gearbox in the system or go to smaller props. You had only tested a 9 inch to a 14 inch. If you went in that order you were going the wrong way! Of course, you can see that now that you went to a 7 inch prop. All of these motors can be over amped with a big enough prop. If you have to have a large prop you will just have to go to a larger cap battery and/or ESC or gearbox. Make sure the motor can handle the amps, too.

Good luck!

Set your voltage cutoff to 7.5 volts. All the experts will tell you that that is a bad thing, that you can damage your battery, but what you will actually find is that under heavy loads (like your 30amps) the voltage is going to drop substantially. Once you remove the load, the voltage will pop back up.

I have hit this cutoff lots of times on 3C packs, and they always read at least 10.5V after landing. Happy flying.

(I use this on a A30-16M with a 2480 Appogee as well as many others)
