I wanted to know if anybody has put a GWS 350 mah pack in either the tiger moth or the pico cub. And is one better than the other is one of them faster or more manuverable than the other

thanks in advance

mAh rating is almost always directly related to weight. The higher the mAh rating, the heavier the battery is. Planes fly better the lighter they are.

The GWS 350mAh pack is the same size as the older GWS 270mAh pack, which does work in the Tiger Moth. It gives you longer flight times and better wind penetration due to the additional weight.

I use this battery for my TM:
http://www.horizonhobby.com/products...001&pc=EFL5001
It's 300mah Ni-MH 7 cell. No moddifcations needed in order for it to fit. 10 + mins flight time.

I'm a higher altitude flier. I use batteries similar to the ones suggested by Leslie. I bought the 7 cell 300 mAh NiMH packs from Hobby Lobby a year ago. I can push flight times to 13 minutes. I know people who are running 600 mAh NiMH packs on their planes. They will fly for 20 minutes, but the plane gets too heavy to fly well. I have also seen people running 8 cells, but they burn out motors in a hurry.

I agree, the little motor doesn't like 8 cells and will die quicker.

The 7 cell 8.4v 300mah Ni-MH 1/3 AA size flight pack made by E-Flite is great for the TM.

It weighs about the same as the 6 cell 150mah Ni-Cd battery that comes with the Pico kit and has double the capacity.

I have 2 of them for my TM. You want to keep the TM as lite as possible.

Anything larger than what your looking at gets a bit heavy and you should then consider Lion or LiPoly. 900 Lipolys weigh about what your 350 will or slightly less and will give you looooong flight times. Have gotten an hour out of mine if a little easy on the throttle.

I've flown a TigerMoth with seven 600mAh NiMh strapped under the wing but I know what you mean about "a bit heavy". It tends to act like a pendulum so if you loop it immediately falls out of it to one side. Probably best to stick around the 300mAh mark for sensible flight.

I've found, thru experimentation w/ various sizes + types that the 7c. 300 2/3 AAA NiMH works best all-round (for me) using the GWS stick (etc.) power unit. Hobby Lobby's got 'em for $17.50, just add conn. #B300N7, it weighs 2oz. I can loop my Lite Stick over a hundred times in a row! Beware tho, cuz that can make you dizzy, and look like some kind of nut to your flyin' buddies! (that's o.k. tho cuz I am...you gotta be nuts or else you'll go crazy!!!) Happy Landings...

Has anyone ever try the NiMH 8.4V/1000mAH pack from www.bydusa.com on the Tigermoth? Does it fit in the Tigermoth? The price on this battery seems right; $25 for 2 + free shipping.

1000 mAh Nimh would be too heavy, at least in my kneck of the woods.

Try 6 700 nimh AA and you should get 30 minutes. try 7 700 nimh and you will get 19 minutes. This is a tried true arrangment.

7 cell 500 NiMh works well also. 350 or up in my book, but not much bigger than 500 or your going to cook the motor. Li is the way to go I'm thinking. so small and great times. not sure about the power though.
