Parkflyer Cessna 182
This is my first plane ( Parkflyer Cessna 182 4ch) and need some advise on batteries. It comes with the stock battery, but I am looking to extend my flying time by replacing it with a Li-poy battery. Can you use any Li-Poy as long as you have the same connectors, or do you have to use a certain one. I am looking for something around 7.4v at 1800mah. I have found a few on ebay but not sure if they will work. I don't want to fry anything on my first plane. Also if you go up on the mah's does that increase the flying time? Thanks for any help in advanced.

RE: Parkflyer Cessna 182
I have the same plane and I use a TowerPower 1300mah, 7.4v, battery. It is very light compared to the stock battery and fits in the battery compartment. I usually fly it for about 12 minutes and use about 80% of the charge. I don't want to fully discharge the battery since I'm not sure how the ESC is set up on this plane and I do not want to damage the battery.
I have other planes that I take to the field also, so 12 minutes is plenty for me on the Cessna.

RE: Parkflyer Cessna 182
The Cessna flies best on 9.6v 8 cells around 1000 mah. I got around 6 min flight time on stock ESC using 1/2 power most of the time.
I switched to cheap $15 slinger ESC and got 10 min of flight time using same battery.
One problem with using 7.4v lipo is you will have less volts so it will fly with less power than on 9.6V.
When you go up in mah u go up in flight time though u also increase the weight of the battery. a 2000 mah battery weighs twice as much as 1000 mah battery. A 2000mah lipo weighs less than half of 2000 mah NIMH though it takes least a hour to charge a lipo verses 30 min for NIMH.

Stockdaddy, what are your thoughts on a 11.1v battery?? I am guess something around 1400mah. For nwo I am more interested in flying time than power. Now going to be doing a lot of stunts or tricks. Just some general flying. Thanks for the input.

idigital,
A lipoly battery up around the 2000 mah wont fit in the plastic battery box. I fly with a 2100 most of the time and took the box out but left most of the lid on the plane. You'll need a lipoly charger for a lipoly battery. This plane might be OK for a first timer, but it does not fly slow or is the most stable plane out there. I have a brushless on mine and it fly's very nicely.

thanks greenflight. I will be careful when flying. I should be ok. I know its not like flying the real thing, but I have flown a Piper Tommahawk before and I live on my computer flying MSFS. Which battery are you using, and about how much flying time are you getting out of that 2100mah? I am glad I found this site, you guys have help me out a great deal.

Most 480/400 motors can only handle max of 9.6volts. Anymore than that and you'll likely burn out the motor quick. Though new motors are only $10.
I'm not a big fan of using Lipos for non brushless motors.

RE: Parkflyer Cessna 182
I just found a 7.4V 1800mah lipo on ebay, brand new. I think I will just stick with that one for now. I do have an extra motor, I had picked a couple up for another plane that I never ended up getting. Do the Art-Tech 7.4 1800mah battery fit in this plane? It looks just like the Parkflyer battery, but different label.
