Default Installing pinion onto motor shaft

I recently purchased an electric heli and I'm at the point in the installation where I have to put the pinion onto the main motor shaft. Of all the planes and 2 other previous helicopters I've owned, the pinion was a very snug fit and therefore stayed on nice when I got it onto the shaft. This one is quite different. The pinion hole is much larger than the shaft and has a very small screw that goes into the side. I'm assuming this screw should be screwed on as tight as possible to secure the pinion onto the shaft. Is this correct thinking? Should I use some thread locker on it to make double sure it doesn't come loose? The last thing I want to happen is have the pinion get loose and basically not turn the main gear while I'm in mid flight.

Thanks for any info,
Mark

Default RE: Installing pinion onto motor shaft

Well, if there are gaps between the pinion and the motor shaft, then that is a problem. After you tighten it, when the motor spins, the gear will not be centered on the shaft. So, you need to get another pinion gear that fits the shaft well. But, as for the gear coming loose, I don't think you will have a problem. If you tighten the gear well enough, and apply loctite, then it shouldn't come off.
