Default Pt-40 to electric

I gave a fellow worker who is interested in RC my PT-40 to train on. he wants to convert it to electric. What kind of motor/speed control would he need to power this with.

Thanks

Cary

I converted one with an E-Flite Power 46 and use a CC Phoenix 60 ESC and Kokam 3200's (4 cells )
That's a very powerful (for this airplane ) brushless set-up...and will take it vertically to about 400' and a take off roll of about 20' with a little head wind

You could get away with substantially less power if you don't want to spend that much...

What's your budget?

Electric power is totally new to me. Not to say money is not a problem, but what would a set-up like this cost ? and where would you order from ?

Thanks in advance

Well...let's see...

The motor: E-Flite "Power 46" is about 100.
The Speed control: Castle Creations "Phoenix 60" is about 120.
Batteries are somewhere you could save a few bucks if you shop around...but say from 150.-175 for a 4 cell Li-Po pack of around 3500 mah, although I hear some guys rave about the PolyQuest's from Hobby-Lobby. You could get a 4400 PQ for the price of the 3200 Kokam's.

So...100. + 120. + 175. = $395.00

Now...you need a charger...
I really like the FMA "Cellpro 4S" and it works very well with our Kokam 3200 Cellpro batteries.

We also have another battery pack, so you could add another 175. to the above total...

So...here we go...400. + 70 for the charger, + 175. for another pack= about $650.00 total investment.

I'm teaching some Air Force Junior ROTC cadets with ours, so I had their budget to work with...

If I was doing it on my own, I might try to cut down a little, but it would still be about 400-450. approx. with only 1 batt. pack.
