What size battery should I use????
Hi all !!! I need a little help. I am new to electric RC flying and have some questions that maybe some of you who have experience can help. I have a foamy that I built and have been flying for about 1 month. My problem is that I only get about 5 minute flight times out of my battery pack. Here is what I have: foam plane is 40 inch wing span and has a total flying weight (with battery pack) of 20 oz.
I have an E-flite 480 motor and with a tower pro 30A speed controller and I am using 1000mAh 11.1V 3 cell Li-Po battery packs. Depending on the prop I use I can only get anywhere from 5 to 6 minutes flying time out of each pack. I like to fly 3D with this plane so I am on and off the throttle a lot but I think there has to be a battery pack that you can get 10 to 15 minute flight times on a regular basis without spending $80.00 for one pack. Can anyone help me here. Is my battery packs to small or what?????? Any info. would be appreciated !!!!!!!!!!

RE: What size battery should I use????
I would say yes the pack is too small if its a 480 outrunner and 20oz plane. For longer run times go with a 2100mah battery. I have an Extra stiffy that weighs right at 20ozs and dont have any problems with run times. I have a eflight 450 outrunner and run 1500mah for 10-11 minutes and 2100mah for 12-13 minutes.
I had a problem with one of my 1500mah batteries not lasting like it should and i was told to balance it. Ihad to buy a balancer but it fixed the problem with the battery lasting longer.
I buy MaxAmp.com lipos--- work great. 1500mah for 32.00 and 2100mah for 46.00 both 3s 11.1v

Wildjaych, Thanks for the information and the website. I had another person tell me to go with at least a 2000 mAh battery pack.
I think I will get one and try that out. Thanks again
