Default NEAT Fair 2006

Hi all,

Let's see who is going to the big electric show this near called the [link=http://www.neatfair.org/]Northeast Electric Aircraft Technology[/link] (or NEAT) Fair on Sept. 15th, 16th, and 17th. It is the nation's largest gathering of electric model aircraft held in the Catskill mountains in lower NY state near Downsville, NY.

Team FMA will have two trailers loaded with planes and charger demos this year near the flight line entrance as well as a vendor booth near the food tent. Stop by for a demo or just to say "hi". I have two demos scheduled at noontime; one for my 6000 watt 33% Edge 540 and another in combination with Dan Landis. Both Team Futaba's Dan Landis and Team JR's Devin McGrath will go head-to-head in a plyon race between my Great Planes Lil Toni and Dan's Minnow. Needless to say, both these planes are way over-powered!

Here are some photos of my trailer loaded with planes destined for this year's NEAT Fair. I'll mark them on my Web site so people attending the show can look up the power systems and manufacturer information.

Let's see if Matt Kirsch decides to show up this year!

We video taped Team JR's Devin McGrath practicing on the Edge 540 for his demo at the upcoming NEAT Fair. Now that we have a Mejzlik 28" prop and increased aileron gain, the power level and roll rate look good. Devin wants more elevator throw as he had difficulty holding the hover in wind. I'll do this very soon and we'll try it again.

I also calculated that if I switch Lithium packs from my old 20C 2p 2100mAh cells to the new 20C 1p 5000mAh cells that I can increase duration by 20% and drop 1.0lb in weight. This will likely happen over the winter months for next season.

Can't hover but you want to learn? Use the FS8 Co-pilot in V-Hover Mode. The Co-pilot can easily be remotely switched between 1) normal flight mode, 2) Co-pilot mode, and 3) V-Hover mode using a spare channel knob or 3-position switch on your transmitter. The Co-pilot and V-Hover Modes can be adjusted for a variable amount of assistance.

Team JR's Devin McGrath doesn't need the Co-pilot in V-Hover mode...unless he's not using any hands!

Check it out at this years NEAT Fair on September 15th-17th.

Just shoot me if I don't make it this year. Last year I listened to my brother who looked at the weather report... Won't happen again, promise

I'll be there with a trailer load of my own projects, including the electric conversion of the Kangke Waco I reviewed for RCU last year, my Hangar 9 P-40, a couple of old Global ARF warbird .40-size conversions, and the infamous "Boom Stick," a dual-AXI powered ModelTech FunFly .90.

Matt,

We'll be glad to see you at NEAT this year. We plan to post daily event photos from the NEAT Fair each day. There will be lots of new technology displayed, discussed, and demonstrated. For example, the first production quality Molicel packs will be demonstrated as shown below in my Senior Telemaster.

Radar clocked at over 120mph, my Great Planes Lil Toni racer piloted by Devin McGrath goes head-to-head against Dan Landis' Minnow in the noontime demos.

Is it the Lil Toni vs. the Minnow or Team JR vs. Team Futaba?

Another NEAT Fair demo will have the E-flite J3 Cub 25 on floats taking off grass. We make the floats extra slippery by spraying Pledge furniture polish on the bottom. The power level and ground steering of this J3 Cub design with floats on grass is proof that it will perform fantastic off water!

by spraying Pledge furniture polish on the bottom.
Great minds think alike I suppose! BTW: Don't spray that stuff over hardwood floors and then walk over it in socks. My brother and I landed on our ps a couple of times when my mom did that, we took off our socks, and it wasn't slick any more. You have been warned.

Having my driver's liscense and more planes still won't convince my parents to let me go to NEAT this year. I wish I could go...and I wish my wallet was bigger. There are at least 5 planes I want right now...1 I have been wanting for over a year now. I guess I'll see you guys when I'm in college and can get away for a bit. Which will be in like 3 years.[&:]

I'll be sure and stay tuned to this thread and cheer you guys on! Have fun this year! Hopefully this Xmas I'll be able to get a sim and a new radio (possibly futaba 7c) then for my birthday 4 months after xmas I can get one of those s that I want. (argh AirFoilZ Edge, HL V Diamond, brushless Stryker, or DepronJet's F16...decisions!)

Greg is that Showtime I see electric powered?[X(]

It's raining cats 'n dogs here at NEAT. The forecast took a quick turn for the worse. At this point, we hope to fly on Saturday but Friday looks like it may also be a washout.

No photos from today as we did not even drop out trailers off due to the rain.

All I fly is electric powered planes but I don't have a ShowTime. It is probably my Graupner ShowFlyer.

Ah looking at your website the plane I mistook for the Showtime was the UltraRC Icepoint. They have a similar fuse look to them and similar covering curves...but not colors. My bad.[&:][:'(]

Sucks that bad weather is taking its toll. Next year it'll be better.
