Default solder confusion

Hey Fellows

After flying the gas birds for awhile I got the itch to pull out my electrics, and i even bought a few electrics, but my question to anyone is this,, Before if i were soldering two pieces of wire together, my steps would be the same as i've always done, and that was after i striped the wire, i would clean it well with flux,,,,.. Well awhile back i decided it was time for a new solder system which was a WES51D Digital solder gun,,, but here's my question and i cant remember what the problem was,,,, I remember at times if i wanted to solder two wires together and one wire had gold wire, well i would do the same as usually and clean it with flux, the smelt a small piece of solder on the edge of solderer and just touch the wire and the solder would instantly cover the wire, and i would do the other side the same, and that was that,, but first what kind of solder should i be using, and next, if anyone thinks it maybe a dirty tip, i also use that Grey powder looking paste, that protects my different,,, anyway all you help would be great
Thank

RRW

Default RE: solder confusion

Randy,
I get real nervous when I hear folks using "flux" for electronics work, the only flux you need is in the solder designed for electronics work, if you are using a paste flux that you bought in the plumbing dept. thow it out, unless of course you do your own plumbing repairs Just use rosin core solder for your electrical work.
